TORY m TRIALS BY JURY Cases of Slocumb against Ptall delpbla Construction Company and alarletta Lumber Company Heard Judgments against Railway Companies. Judge Fred Moore adjourned the' one-week term of Robeson County Superior Court Ft day afternoon, baring cleared the civil docket of a large number of cases While there were only two or three jury trials during the week, judg ments were signed in a number of cases which had been compromised or non-suited. This as Judge Moore's last court here on this round Be is quite popular with the Robeson county bar. Friday the Cases of A. H. Slo cumb, receiver, vs the Philadel phia Construction Companp, and A. H. Slooumb vsthe Marietta Lumber Company claimed the at tention of the court. The first named case was continued for a hearing before Jude McNeill here on December 16. and in the latter 'the Judge after hearing the mo tions and pleadings took it under advisement. A meeting of the Committee ap pointed to secure funds for the erection of a monument to the Confederate soldiers of Robeson county was held in the oourt house Saturday afternoon. Tbe meet ing was presided over by Chair man MoKenzie. Mr. J. A. Mc Allister, th? treasurer, refoHi the amount subscribed, which now amounts to several hundred dollars. Ways And means for raising the remainder of the amount wanted were discussed. A central com mittee composed of A. VV. Mc Lean, G. B. McLeod, Li. C. Law renoe, J. A McAllister and O. C. Norment was appointed to secure subscriptions in Lumberton. It was decided to appoint township committees to be oomposed of two veterans and three sons of veter ans in each township; A part of these were appointed Saturday and as soon as the list is complet ed it will b3 published. Conference at Wilson. It is with pleasure we learn that the pastors from Robeson county have all returned to their churches for another year. Townssnd, supernumerary. , Alliance la Atlanta. Mr. E. B. Freeman attended tbe Christian Missionary Alliance held in Atlanta, Georgia, some days since; returning home last Tuesday. The Alliance is com posed of six of tbe Southern States, of.whi'cb Rev. R. A. Forest is su perintendent. Mr. Freeman tells ns that the Convention was one of the greatest and most ef feotiveln its history. The Alliance has on its foreign fields, about fomr .hundred missionaries. Six thousand nine hundred dollars were raised for foreign missione. These Ahianoes are held annually and each year the rapid increase in this work as shown at the con ventions, is wonderful. . Sanderson, of Mar ietta, made us a call while in town yesterday, and paid up his subscription. Miss Anna Holtz, who taught a mission school here, has gone to China as a missionary. Miss Bessie Bridgers has decided to remain in Virginia until the 1st of January. Despite the unfavorable'weatber, there was a large attendance of delegates and members present at the meeting of the Robeson County Cotton Growers Association held in ths county court house Satur diy.. Officers for the ensuing year y were elected and much enthusiasm y was manifested. The meeting was called to order just before noon by President A. J. McKinnoo, of Maxton, who made a brief address outlining the work to be done by the As sociation. He called attention to what had beeu accomplished by the organization, especially tbe recent increase in the price :f cotton. It was announced that tbe In dian Cotton Growers Association ef Robeson county had recently been organized. James Dial is president and Alex Looklear is secretary ot this organization. It was found that nearly all of the townships of the oounty were represented by duly accredited del egates, A committee oomposed of one member from each ot tbe townships represented was , ap pointed to nominate officers for tbe association and delegates to the State Oopvsntion to be held at Raleigh next month.
