Red Springs Bottling Works Doing Thriving Business Mr. Bowdca Makes Visit to Red Sprlngs-Dr. Vardell Delighted Over Trip to Orange Presbytery Red Springs, April 26. The remains of the original wooden building of the college, wnich has remained a year as the cen ter building since the extension of the brick cast wing is being torn down now to be replaced with the brick structure pro-, vide'd for in the splendid plan by which the several sections of the great building has been going up from year to year as the money could be procured. This new center building in its height, pro jection and other proportions, will Sdd more to the appearance of the' building than any part so so far , erected. There is money enough in sight, thanks to good friends, to rear and cover the walls 'and this mucli of the work at least is going to be done this summer. If other friends should come to the help of the manage ment then the structure will be made ready for occupancy when the next scholastic year oiens. The Red Springs Bottling Works is doing a thriving busi ness, surely. Its volume of trade has certainly increased greatly already. Shipments were made to six nearby towns Thursday. The orders were made after try ing the goods. We never drank better ginger ale. The Red Springs water is used in its manufacture. This is a popular feature. The goods are put up safely and in appearance the equal of any on the market. We shall picture the machinery and processes of the plant later. The new - proprietor of the North Carolina Military Insti tute, we learn, is Major Wilbur M. Jdnes, superintendent of Ki rk wood Military Academy, Kirk wood, Miss. He is said to have had twelve years experience as a teacher. It is expected that h will be on the ground early in June and begin preparations for the opening f the Academy in the fall. Our town is beginning to get exftited over the municipal elec tion, and we hear of several can didates for mayoralty. The sev eral candidates are men of action and ambition, and we hope that whoever is" chosen for that re sponsible position will inaugurate a new era of progress in improve ment. A great deal depends upon the execution of our laws. There is no use for a board of commis sioners to enact laws and regu lations if the executive will not enforce them. 'Dr. Vardell attended Orange Presbytery last week and re ports that he has secured the interest of that Presbytery in behalf of this college. This means Much, and he can now go forward ..in the, many. improvements that he contemplates for the better ment of the institution.
