The com mittee was appointed.af ter whjch the convention adjourned for dinner. AFTERNOON SESSION When the convention reassem bled, the committee to nominate delegates to the State Convention made its report, which was un animously adopted. The conven tion then went into the election of delegates to otherconventions. Again there was a long discus sion as to the method of electing delegates, it being decided that each, township should elect its proportionate part of the num ber of delegates. The delegates were soon nominated and elected by the convention, as also were the delegates to the Judicial Con- -vaaUon. . ;. Van Ness, of Charlotte, and officials of the Seaboard and Coast Line Rail roads were here Wednesday to see about the side tracks for the new oil mill which is soon to be built hero. The yopng people of the town went fo McRae's Mill Wednes- ncsdny nftertoon on a fishing ex pedition but their catch was slim. The ladies furnished the supper and all had a good time. Miss Jackson, of Wilmington, who has been the guest of her sister, Mr. J. K. Womack, re turned home Thursday. Mr. 'Lacy McLean returned from Davidson College Tuesday night forthe summer vacation. The Officers of the Maxton Guards gave an icecream supper and smoker to the members on Wednesday night in the Armony. Quite a large number was pro sent, and all enjoyed themselves greatly. The centract for the new Methodist Church has been let to Mr. J, F. Stewart, of Ben nettsville, S. C. Work is to com mence at once and the church is to be completed by Dec. 1st. Mr. and Mrs. J. S. McRae and little son and Miss Fowle spent pent Wednesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Russell, of Sycamore Hill. The Maxton Building and Loan Association opens Series No. 23 on Saturday.June 2nd. The As sociation is.improving very much now and ifc a great benefactor of the town. Dr. D. C. Mclver and Mr. Hec tor McLean left Thursday morn ing for Jackson Springs. Dr. II. W. McNatt and wife left Thursday morning for Balti more. Luke Smith, white, is in jail hero charged with the killing of Nan Dunn, a mulatto woman, at Red Banks, this county, Sunday morning. The first news of the affair reached here about 7 o'clock Sunday morning in a telegram from Marshall Wrenn to Sheriff G. B. McLeod. The latter noti fied Deputy Sheriff J. A. Barker and Coronor Rancko and they left immediately for the scene of the killing which is about 14 miles from Lumberton.
