STEIFF, Soulbern Wareroom, 5 West Trade St., CHARLOTTE, N. C. C. H. W1LMOTH. Mar. thursday, september 13. 1006. the labor famine. The scarcity of labor on our farms And in certain, lines of in dustries has for Some time been viewed with' alarm by every one except the vagrant The vagrant is a being that infests every town, no matter its size. He is rarely, it ever, found in the country dis tricts. The toilers in the country on the farms will not permit an able-bodied man to loaf around and eat the rations that they have earned by the sweat of their brow. This is one reason why the vagrant fs not found fn the country districts. Another reason is that the dead beat pre fers the town. There is more there to interest him. In the country there are not enough of his stripe to keep him company. He loves association. In every town he has it. It is one class or fraternity that does not stop to organize to keep together They are loyal to certain spots and arc punctual about being on hand. They meet all trains in a body. These parasites will take no tice that several associations are camping on their tracks and the day may not be far distant when they will have to make an honest living for themselves or they will have to work for some of our public institutions, such as pub lic mads or streets. The Louis iana Immigration Association is sending out letters to Southern Governors asking that the execu rrwt and Imprison vagrants and loafers. The Geor gia ruid FJ01 ida Sawmill Asso ciation has undertaken a similar coure.
