Delightful Entertainment at Gra ded School Thanksgiving Or phans Remembered. Written for The Rob!onln. Lumber Bridge Graded School treats the town and community to something new, pleasing and patriotic in the form of Thanks giving exercises, which were held Wednesday evening, so as to reach the greatest number pos sible. r The true spirit of Thanks giving could not fail to quicken anyoue, so fortunate as to be present. The selections were happily chosen and the senti ment was in perfect harmony with the occasion. The partici pants of all grades did so well that personal mention of anyone would not be in good taste, un less perhaps, a special thought might be given to the beauty, grace and dignity of the "Queen of the Harvest," in the person of Miss Katie Marley. It is always right to speak well of a queen. Her throne, erected in the midst of an ideal harvest scene, sur rounded and decorated with fruits and flowers, shocks of golden grain, baskets of corn, heaps of potatoes, onions, melons and pumpkins, more suggestive of a bountiful harvest than our "cor nucopia," made realistic the thought that our very existence is due to the God of the Harvest. With this thought impelling us to deeds of gratitude and loving charity as with one accord each pupil of the school, in a song of praise, marches to lay his offer ing' at the ieet of the Harvest Queen, she rises from her throne bids them take these gifts to kens of genuine love and thank fulnessto earth's more needy ones, the orphan homes, where plenty is a stranger and comforts sparse and few . The offerings of fruits or any thing else the child might wish to give bore evidence of the fact that it 'was a keen pleasure to these children to give to the fath erless or motherless children of our Oxford Orphanage. The value of these gifts was more than six dollars and a cash offering, without taking up a collection, amounted to nearly five dollars. We feel very grateful to all the teachers of our excellent school for our Thanksgiving exercises Such lessons cannot fail to make better men and women of our boys and girls.
