Entered as second-class matter at the Post vfice at Lamberton, N. C. , under the Act of OongresR of March 8rd. 187. THURSDAY, DECEMBER 6. igo6 CONGRESS WORKING AGAIN. The Fifty-Ninth Congress be gan its first session at noon Mon day. It took both the Senate and House of Representatives but one hour and fifteen minutes to arrange all preliminary mat ters. The Senate received along list of appointments for confir mation from President Roosevelt Senators Penrose and Foraker came forward with resolution of inquiry regarding the discharge of the negro troops- One was addressed to the President, the other to the Secretary of War, Vice President Fairbanks said that it was uuusual to transact any business until the Presi dent's message had been re ceived, which was put in form of a motion and carried. The opening of both houses were crowded. Many ladies were present, among them being speedy trial and the laws per taming to the acts will basten a more speedy execution. But lynching for this one particular crime, causes those to extend lynching in a more broad manner and by this many innocent, are often put to death, and by all means the law mnst be upheld. As to the farmer, the message stated in part: "As the business organization has become a neces sity in the world, so it is with the farmer, he must organize to protect himself. He must have a chance to become better educa ted, as by this method he will or I can by intimate relationship un derstand the theory of education and the facts of life." There were many other sub jects dealt upon such asJftal road employees; Merchant Ma rine; Industrial Training, and Capital aud Labor disputes. But the first two were those which we think interest our readers in general. Administrator's .Notice Having this day qualified a Adminis trator ot tne estate of sue A. A special from Wadesboro to the Raleigh News and Observer says that the business of the Wadesboro saloons with dry towns in this State and South Carolina has steadily grown un til it has assumed enormous pro portions, the daily shipment by express alone amounts to from 30 to 300 gallons. The special explains that most of the booze goes to South Carolina, but that no inconsiderable quantity is con sumed in this State. We were under the Impression that ex press companies could not carry whiskey from a wet town and deliver it to parties in a dry town in tnis estate- ve suppose it is billed as some other kind of ware instead of "wet" ware. It may be possible, but hardly probable, that every man goes after his own booze- Under and by virtue of an order, of the Superior Court of Robeson county, in a Special Proceeding entitled A. W. This message many Democrats were was an unusual as well as cow pleased on the views of the in come tax, and many commented that the President had used many of Democratic planks. 1 he parts of the message that seemed to be of most interest were those that pertained to the Japanese affairs and the inher: tance tax. There was some dis appointment over the failure of the President to discuss the.Pan ama Canal. To our readers no doubt the important passage is that dealing with the Lynch law, and the pro tection of the farmers- In brief, the most important fact, according to the President's . view of lynching, are these: The epidemic of lynching and mob violence springs up not only in one part of the counary but all parts, and no section with wis dom has any right to jeer another section, for it should be busy trying to amend its own short comings. As to the crime of rape, the punishment should be death, as in the case of murder also assault with intent to com mit rape should be made a capi tal crime. But in all cases no matter how heinous they may be there should and must be a' ardly way to get even with the railroad but we feel sure a dam age suit will follow. Some of our delinquent sub scribers have already comeacross with the "long green" and we give them due credit for same, but there are many yet we would be glad to hear from. We don't make these appeals just to fill space, but, because we need the "dough. n We understand that a grade.d school is being taked for Lum berton.
