O. Evans have purchased the Croom-Barnes Drug Go's, business and will shortly incorporate under the name of Barnes Bros. Drug Co. with a paid in capital of at least $5,000. A new iron front with a plate glass will be put in and other improvements made. Mr. D. R, Barnes is well known here and has been a partner in the former business to which his firm now succeeds- Mr. Evans is the nresident of the Bank of Maxton, and Mr. Ben Barnes has been connected with large drug bouses, wholesale and retail, at both Winston and Greensborp, Mr- R. D- Croom, who retires from the business, will devote his time to the Maxton Bottling Works which he soon expects to incorporate. Mr. O. Cy, Spaulding, the cash ier of the Bank here, has si cured the McLean house oh Saunders Street and with his wife will soonoccupy the same. His wife is for the present at Lumberton, at the home of her father, Mr. C. B. Townsend. Messrs. R. C. Lawrence and A. W. McLean, of the Lumaerton bar, were here on business Thurs day. Misses Bessie and Clarkie Belle McNair and Leila Barnes spent a few days at McColl this week. Mr. J. P. Wiggins was a Char otte visitor last Tuesday. It is reported that some parties from Rowland will open a bot tling works here in the near nture. We are always glad to earn of any new industries that may locate here. Dr. M. R. Gibson returned home Wednesday from Montgom ery Ala. where he spent several days. Angus.the little son of our towns man, A. C. McKinnon Esq , had the mis tor tune to break his leg just above the knee on Wednes day. He and several children were on a loaded wagon, some thing frightened the horse and all fell off, but strange to say dnly one was hurt. He is resting as well as can be expected and it is hoped he will soon be able to walk again. Mrs. Dorndoff, vocal teacher at Peace Institute, of Raleigh, and Miss McNeill of Red Springs, gave a recital in the Graded School Auditorium here last night to a fair sized and appreci ative audience. Mrs. . Dorndoff has a splendid voice and all who heard her were very mnch ca ried away. t Miss McNeill gave two selections on the violin which were enjoyed. There were three hundred present at Robeson Institute for chapel exercises r riday morn ing. The work is in better con dition than it has been before. The principal has been unable to take much interest in the work but he has almost entirely re covered and the pupils are work ing in earnest. There are two more months yet and much will be accomplished in that time- It is desired to make the last year of the Robeson Institute a suc cessful one. The older boys are very enthusiastic over base ball and are planning to play other teams later in the spring. A commendable step was taken Friday by the younger boy which it is hoped will be a very successful one. An Anti-Cigar ette Club was organized by Miss Watson. The Cemetery Committee met Friday and adopted the plan o tne landscape gardeners and named tbe Cemetery "Meadow Brook".The mayor was instruct ed to have surveyor lay off two acres of it. Lots will be put on sale immediately. It was resolved to request board of commissioners to move any bodies from old Cemetery at depot to the new Cemetery at the expense of the town if the in te rested parties will permit it and buy lot in new Cemetery.
