Sad Death of Lov cable Womaa 014 Laadanark Paa Away- Other Item. CorrrroBdnc of Th Robrtoalaa. "Last week my business af fairs ? got all jumbled up and piled up too, so I could find no time to pay my respects to my friends of the lower end.which was not much of a deprivation to ' them, as I had no news of any interest to write, a condi tion; which has not improved much since. On Friday m- and night we had 'three heavy rains, and a severe electric dis play, but not much wind.' The rain was gladly welcomed by the farmers, as we were get ting dry in the Pork.' Crops are looking very . well, and growing nicely. The Squire found several cotton 'blooms some days ago, and there are plenty of them in the neigh borhood. In olden times it was considered real early to have a cotton bloom, and: ripe watermelons by the 4th of July," at the present time the blooms are plentiful in June, but I hear of no melons likely to be ready by the 4th in this vicinity. Our cpmmunity was grieved on Sunday a. nv, the 30th, to learn of the death "of Miss Amanda - Caddell,-daugh ter of Mr! and Mrs. W. G. Caddell, of the Turn Out section." This loveable Christian womn at tended the previous Sabbath services at Oak Grove ME: church, of which she had been for several years a devoted member, and that night was stricken down witn pneumo nia, from which she died on Saturday night following at 10:30. One Sabbath in God's earthly sanctuary, and the next in the beautiful courts of the Heavenly city, for she was a gfentle, "humble; Christianr'as was evidenced- in. her Godly life and conversation, and her sweet sunshininfr nature. The aged parents, four sisters and thiee brothera,' mourn the sep aration, while the whole com munity join in sympathy for the loss of one who was a gen eral favorite. On the same night, an old landmark of ante-bellum days passed into the great beyond. Mack McQueen, (colored) who was - reared, lived, and died in this immediate section, and was a relative of Wash Mc Queen, of your town. "Mac k' ' was, in J slavery times the car riage driver of my uncle, Ma jor. McQueen, and 1 haveknown him every since my earliest re collection. He was always con spicuous for his good manners, courtesy, and old time polite ness, taught him in his youth, by his well-trained mother, and to which he adhered as long1 as he lived. How rapidly,- like the old veterans, is this class of darkies disappearing, and each one- that goes leaves, a vacancy that will never be filled by the rising' generation. The .Squire, accuses, me of having made a mistake in my last letter to your paper, and I promisea shim 0 correct it. stated, however it was printed four acresi'which hev thinks did not do trim , justice. So I' do hereby acknowledge the error, with a promise ' to do better hereatter.
