Tha interest created in leading cities during the past year by young Mr. Cooper with his new preparation, is largely accounted for by a peculiar Quality possessed by thi3 medicine, which he calls his New Discovery. Mr. Cooper believes that internal parasites, or tapeworms, are respon kIMa fnr much ill health, and it is an .inrtniiMpil fact that his medicine has expelled immense numbers of these creatures in various cities visited by him. The. young man also believes that stomach trouble is the main cause nf all ill health. lis claims that few can hi-ve poor health v.'ith a good di gestion. He further claims that his New Discovery medicine does nothing trat tone u the stomach, yet it not only .xpl3 the parasites, but relieves many oi'jur a U rivals r.jt as a rule a3 ""r,oclatd with rtoniach trouble. Little Jossie Birdsall, daughter of Mrsrlda E'.rdsall, liviug at 2133 Car roll Avenue, Chicago, is among many rslievocl of a large parasite by Mr. Cooper's preparation during his stay in that city. Priea 2i. ROBERT E. IXX. A Virginian's Trlbnte to the Great Confederate Co mmander - John 8. Wise, In The Oircle. No man ever commanded more absoluitMx the love and trust of his so'diers than Robert E Lee heir devotion was noi that of the reckless followers of Napo leon. It was like the love and trust of children for a father He rode and walked and talked hujudk tbt m like a fahter with his sobs. They knew his great mind planned for their safety as well as their glory; they knew he was faultlessly brave; that his deart ana souj were wrapped up in them: that he shared their triumphs and tneir sufferings as truly as if he were a private soldier. L-je's piece in the Virginian heart is next to Washington whom he much resembled in some thinirs even ahead of Wash- crton. There was more love ia Lee's composition than in Wash! mgton's- 1 count it an inestimable privi lege that I kaew this great mat not as an equal or an intimate, of course, but as a very humble and a very insignificant young person -who was allowed to touch the hem of his garment. I knew all the other great mili tary leaders of that period' Grant, Johnston, Sherman Sheridan had many opportuni ties to observe them in public and in private. None of them impressed cue a- did General Lee. Possibly I was partial,. but I do not think so. About tuat war I am a philosopher. It was inevitable, and the men on both sides were equally sincere and equally entitled to respect- Neilhur victory nor defeat de cided the question who was the greatest soldier. History must deside that upon the facts, viewed without bias when all passion has subsided- With the same satisfaction I feel that I have viewed the Roek ies, Niagara, tie boundless bil iovvs of mid-ocean, the starry vault of heaven amidst inanimate things. I thank God that I was permitted to see Robert E- Lee among men. All these repre sent the best that nature can produce. MEMORIAL TO SENATORS. In an Open Letter to Senators Simmons and Overman Gover nor Glenn Urges Them to Stand for Effort to Secure Federal Inter-State XJqnor Law. Governor Glenn has written the following letter To Senators Simmons and Overman: "As is doubtless known to you, a very large percentage of the! counties of North Carolina , have by reason of the provisions of the Watts law voted upon them selves prohibition, also by rea son of what is known as the jug law iu our State, one county can protect itself against the shipping of 'whiskey from another coun ty into its territory. There.how ever, existsa very grievous wrong in regard to the shipping of spir itous liquors from other States into our btate, and especially in- to the territory where the sale of liquor has been prohibited. "I notiice iu the papers that Senator Tillman, of South Caro lina, and Senator Clay, of Geor gia.are making an active figh for the passage of a law that will prohibit liquor dealers in one State shipping into prohibition territory in other States. "This law is fair and just and should be enacted for the pro tection of the people who by their votes eliminated wisbey traffic "I therefore, knowing the con ditions which exist in the State, do earnestly beg of you to use your influence in enacting a lav; to prevent in the f utore shippers of whiskey in another State from shipping to prohibition sec tions. . By doing this you will ba rendering the State -of North Carolina a great service.". A letter of similar tenor will be sent to each'Represehtativein Congress. How lightly Rest Marriage Tie. few York Tribune. How lightly the marriage ties rest upon persons living under the freehand easy divorce laws of these Vnited States may be seen in-the strange adventure of New Jersey woman, who dis covered a few days ago that her husband,' with whom she had oeen Htinghad secured a ditorce from heriive years before. This did not hinder the husband, how ever, from- retaining some real estate which his quondam spouse jad deeded to him under the as umptien that he was still her liege lord. At the same time.Vbe decree released him fromtherob igation of supporting her. Wi 1 jmy other country try to beat his record?
