Owing to a severe affliction in the nature of a felon on my right han-l, some time has elapsed since my last attempt towards giving you the news from this corner of Robeson; but in fact, very little is transpiring here about worthy of recording. The health of the community gener ally is good, except for the prev alence of severe colds, which seem to be a -close relation to the monster grippe. Myrover, "The Silver-tonged Orator of the Capo Fear," the brave and gallant de fender of the lost cause, the loyal patriot, the brilliant writer, whose productions to the press were sought for and read with avidity by ad miring thousands.and above all a typical Southern gentleman, "Sans peur, et sans reproche." My heart sorrows for the loss of him, and I shall so sadly miss from the pages of the Carlotte Observer his sage and intensely I interesting contributions. Our I State, and The Observer, espe-1 cially, are sorely bereaved in the deaths oi the Scotch Poet, and the much beloved Myrover, and alas! who can fill their places? Farming operations have be gun pretty lively in the Fork, guano hauling, stalk cutting, and some ploughing going on. The ginners are still at work occas ionally, finishing up the remnnts of cotton which remained so long in tbe fields, and which has been greatly damaged thereby. I see thatCoLE P.McRae made a "hitting" speech, before the Cotton Growers Association in Charlotte, which is no trouble for Col. "Lilah" to do. I have never known him to fail along this line, I from a political or "agricultural.! speech, to addressing a Sabbath school. He is always ready, and happy in his remarks, saying the right things in tbe right place, j Graham and Spurgeon Frink, and then came the attendants in the following order: Miss Cora Floyd with Mr, Wayerly Broad- well ;Miss Flora Prink with Praf, John J: Singletary; Miss Lena Humphrey with Mr. Cuttins Bostick; Miss Alice Singletary with Mr. G rover Frink, each bridesmaid and groomesman crossing from' right to -left in front of the altar, which render ed the scene more : beautiful Then came the flower-girls lic- tle Misses Dorcas Williams and Allie Frink-robed in pure white aad carryine baskets of white narcissus, followed by tne brme leaning on the arm of her maid of honor, Miss Annie IMickey, ol Winston-Salens, from the left, and the croom with his best man Mr.. During the ceremony "Heart's and Flowers" was 'soft ly rendered at the piano. The bride was beautifully gowned in a jumper suit of mel roseover a waist of point d'esprit, carrying' a lovely bouquet of white carnations. : The "brides maids were dressed in pink and white silks and the groomsmen wore conventional black. , Miss Mickey, maid of honor, wore a lovely gown of light, blae messalaine trimned in cream lace and light blue velvet ribbon.- Af ter the ceremony the bridal par- Txr rwiii aV von Tntftrq.it. Correspondence ol Tbe Bobesonlaa. It has been some tun-i sifiee we attempted to write anything for publication and now we bava not much real news. The sick in this section do not improve, we are sorry to have to state. Mrs- Cobb is still living but is in a critical condition. Since we wrote last her son, Rev. T. J. Cobb, of Statesboro, Ga-, has been to visit her and Mrs. Mc Lean and children and Mr- 8. W. Cobb, of Rowland, have been to see her twice. Mrs. McLean is with her at this writing. Littl9 Donnie Klarpp had the misfortune not long since of breaking his arm at the wrist, or dislocating some of the bones at that joint, which was very painful. Mrs. D. O. Currie and children spent a few weeks visiting in Florida this winter, returning about the 10th of January She reports a nice outing. We learn that Mr. L. E. Hughes has ginned over 900 bales of cot ton up tw date this ginning sea son, and will gin some yet. There have been several visit ing in our community ana out of it since our last items were written, but we have lacked so much of keeping up with them that if we mentined those we re member we might offend others by omitting them. The roads are in bad condition in our section, as well as others There has been some work done on the Red Springs road in Red Springs township that has help ed some, though the mud is soft in some places yet. The worst trouble, it . seems to us, is the brideres: some of them are in a dangerous condition. There is dissatisfaction with the present road system and we are hot sure but your Proctorville scribe is about right. It seems to us it would be well to divide the roads into short sections and let them out to contract to be repaired and kept in order. fAt this point our correspon dent reproduces for publication a letter which' the postmaster has received from the Fourth As sistant Postmaster (Jeneral in regard to the practice of patrons of rural delivery in " placing loose coins in their boxes. We call at tention to a similar letter pub lished in Thursday 's Robesonian Editor. This will nit impose any hard ship ou the patrons and will ena ble the carriers to get around their routes in a shorter, time We are surprised that there has not been a ruling to this effect before this. We have known as much as one dollar-left in a mail box asd just one post card to stamp, and the patrons, some of them, think the carrier ought to go around supplied . with change Co accommodate them.
