THE SEMI-WEEKLY ROBESONI AN.
CONTESTANTS KEEP A STEADY PACE.
The Handsome Prizes of Messrs. White &iGough andjhe
Lumberton Drug Co. Attract Much Interest.
With all interest centered on
the magnificent prizes to be given
this week, the hustling contest
ants are pulling at a steady gait.
The prizes this week have been
the most interesting ones offered.
The near-by country towns are
verv much interested in the con
test and they have shown their
interest by the generous manner
in which they have responded
and supported their contestants.
ABOUT THE SPECIAL PRIZES.
The snecial Drizes that are to
be riven this week by Messrs
White & Gough and the Lumber
ton Drue Co. are on display in
the show windows of the above
named firms. The handsome
rucr at White & Gough's will be
given to the contestant bringing
in the largest number of sub
scriDtions by November 17, and
the two-pound box of Huyler's
candv will so to the contestant
brincrincr in the largest number
of new one-year subscriptions
This is the time to "hustle'
You can win both of these prizes
if you try, but remember, there
are only three more days in which
to work for this offer.
You are doing much more than
winning a fine piano for your
home. You are gaining the hon
or of being the most popular per
son in Robeson county. Now is
your chance to be the most pop-
a Cleanliness
And
Neatness
ular person in I the county with
out any expense to you, and also
win a tine $400 Cote piano. It is
the opportunity: millions have
paid dearly to have the honor of
being the most popular.
Remember the beautiful piano
is at the Eagle Furniture store
and the diamond ring at the
Lumberton drug store, both on
Elm street.
The only way to win is to keep
everlastingly after subscriptions.
It is the constant dripping that
wears away the stone, and like
wise the contestant constantly
keeping after subscriptions will
wear away the distance from the
present standing and the the
grand prize.
Do you contestants understand
that you have only a short timein
whteh to work? No closing date
has been set yet. but it will be
determined later, and you will
be given a fair notice before
hand.

Founders Day At The State
Normal and Industrial College.
The following has been sent
The Robesonian for publication:
To the Alumnae of the State
Normal and Industrial College
that are scattered abroad, Greet
ings! Founder's Day has come and
gone, but the memory of it will
not soon pass away.
The morning of October 12
dawned bright and beautiful and
all day the weather was perfect
Early in the morning Dr. Mclver's
grave was decorated with beauti
ful flowers which had been car
ried to the cemetry by committees
of the faculty and the several
college classes.
At eleven o'clock the faculty
and students, with a large num
ber of alumnae and friends, gath
ered in the college chapel to do
honor to 5"the memory of our
great founder. After an appro
priate introduction of music and
prayer, followed hearty frater
nal greetings to our college from
the University and the State
College of Agriculture and Me
chanic Arts delivered by Profes
sor M. C. S. Noble and Professor
W.A. Withers, respectively. Then
Mr. Josephus Daniels made a
great speech, his theme being
Dr. Mclver's ideal of woman
hood and unselfish, tireless zeal
in uplifting the women of North
Carolina. This portrait of our
beloved friend and hero was a
simple, faithful representation
by one man of another whom he
had known intimately, loved
sincerely, and admired wholly;
and Dr. Mclvers's "girls" re
cognized with love and sympathy
every line in the picture.
President Foust read fifty-nine
letters and telegrams in which
scattered alumnae sent greetings
of love and loyaltyto the college.
In the closing song, "Carolina,"
thehearty singing of the audience
testified that everyone present
felt the inspiration of the hour.
At three o'clock in the after
noon, our vice-president, Mrs.
Minnie Mclver Brown, opened
the meeting of our State Alum
nae Association. At her request.
Dr. Foust spoke a few words.
The alumnae were delighted
with his hearty welcome' and by
the simple manner in which he
explained a few of the immediate
needs of the 'college. It was
gratifying to learn that there is
now in the student body a smaller
proportion of new students than
ever before. This shows that
the college is inspiring her ma
triculates to move steadily for
ward from the freshman to the
senior class. It was appalling to
hear that the number of young
women who had failed to gain
admission to the dormitories was
larger than the number of stud
ents admitted.
The visiting alumnae heard
with delight of the extension
work which Miss Anna Meade
Michauxis beginning in the rural
schools of Forsyth county; of the
summer session which the
college centemplates inaugurat

After Grippe
or any Sickness
Vinol Creates Strength
HERE IS PROOF
" After a long attack of Grippe,
Mrs. Vaught seemed unable to re
cover her strength. She was very
weak and had no appetite. VI
NOL rapidly improved her condi
tion and restored her to health. I
sincerely recommend its use during
convalescence or any run down
condition." .
Judge C. N. Vaught,
Huntsville, Ala.
Miss Adelaide Gamra, of Water
town, Wis., writes, "After a severe
attack of the Grippe, my system
was in a very weakened, nervous,
run-down condition. I took VI
NOL with the best of results,
and it made me feel better and
stronger than I have been for years."
We have never sold in our store
a more valuable health restorer for
weak and run down persons than
VINOL, and we ask such people in
this vicinity to try VINOL with
the understanding that their money
will be returned if it does not do
all we claim for it
