Miss Bessie Powell, of Wan anish, who had been visiting at the home of her grandmother, Mrs. Susan McNeill, left this morning for Raleigh, where she will visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Yost. Mr. Percy McKenzie, who had been spending the holidays in town at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. G. McKenzie, Ipft this morning for Standard, Fla , where he holds a position with a turpentine firm. Mrs. D. S. McRae, who had been spending a few days in town a guest at the home of Mrs Mollis R. Norment, left Friday morning for her home in Fayette ville. Mrs. Norment and her daughter Miss Ruth went with Mrs. McRae. Mrs. Norment re turned Saturday morning. Miss Ruth remained in Fayetteville and she and Mrs. McKae expect to Etsrt Monday of next week for Washington, D. C , where they will spend a week or ten days. Parker returned Thursday from Richmond, Va., where he spent several days vis iting. Mr. Jno. Ingole and his mother Mrs. Jno. McAllister delight fully entertained Friday after noon at four o'clook in honor ol her guest Miss Pitt of Elon Col i .i ..... lege, at ner pretty cottage on Eighth and Walnut streets. As sisting her in receiving were Miss Pitt, Mrs. Willis McAllister and Mrs. John McAllister. The home was tastefully decorated with cut flowers and potted plants, the color scheme of red and green adding a Christmas cheer. At the appointed time, dainty tally-cards were presented, the guests finding their places at the different tables arranged for the progressive game of nations. At the conclusion of six interest ing games, several ladies "tied for the prize, ar.d in cutting it was won by Mrs. E. L. Holloway. who was the recipient of a lovely fern-dish. Miss Pitt, the honoree of the occasion, was given Jhe beautiful bust of a musician, a typical reminder of her person ality. After a delicious repast had been served the afternoon's pleasure drew to a close with sev eral selections on the piano by Miss Leslie Proctor and voice solos by Miss Pitt, accompanied by Mrs. McAllister. A graceful hostess, a charming guest of honor and a most suc cessful entertainment. A Remarkable Family. Mr. W. C. Walters of Barnes ville sends The Robesonian the following record of a remarkable family: James P. Walters, 82 years old, his wife 80 years old; 11 children, 6 boys and five girls, all living, the baby boy about 40 yeaisold, the eldest about 60; 73 grandchildren living, 11 dead; 63 great-grandchildren living, 17 dead; 3 sets of twins among the grandchildren. Mr. Walters has two brothers living, one about 93, the other about 87; Mrs. Walters has three sisters and four broth ers living, the youngest sister about 65, youngest brother about 48. Christmas Tree at Piney Grove. There will be a Christmas tree at Piney Grove Indian school house on January 6, which is Old Christmas. Tne program will consist of songs and recitations by the school and an educational address by Prof. C. D. Brewing ton. The proceeds of the Christ mas tree will be given to the school. One among the many amusements of the evening was a game of nations in which Miss Berta McNeill won the prize for having progressed the greatest number of times. Miss Annie Ruth Caldwell made it pleasant for a large crowd of young folks Friday eve ning at the home oi her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Caldwell. The occasion was given princi pally for students at home for the holidays. In the midst of great joy paper, scissors and some wire were given the guests and they were all instructed to make of the material in hand a carnation each, the creations were wonderful and certainly at tractive from several points of view. For the best flower Miss Margaret Pitman won the prize and Mr. David Fuller received the booby. The prizes were pre sented by Mr. W. K. Bethune. Miss Irene McLeod will give a New Year's party tonight at the home of her parents, ex-Sheriff and Mrs G. B. McLeod, Elm and Fifth streets. Railroad From Pembroke to Red Springs Chartered. The Pembroke Red Springs and Northern Railroad Company was granted a charter today to construct and operate a railroad from Pembroke to Red Springs Robeson county, a distance ot twelve miles. Graham ex pect to leave tomorrow for Row land, where they will make their luture home.
