A Big Day in East Lumber ton Next Meeting at Long Branch. Beparted for The Robesonian. No bigger day has East Lum berton ever had than Sunday, March 31. It was the meeting place for the Mt. Eliam Sunday school institute. It is a well known fact that these meetings are always great, but this seem ed to be the biggest of them all. 'Twas early in the morning when the people began to come from all ways, and by the time the ex cursiontrain arrived from Barnes ville the grounds were cover ed with people of all sizes. The crowd present was estimated at two thousand. The exercises began at 10:30. with devotional exercises, after which the ad dress of welcome was made by Rev. J. M. Fleming of East Lum berton, with a response by Rev. Paul T.Britt of Mt Eliam. After this Mr. R. E. Lee of Lumber tori made a speech which was worth while, his subject being "The Teachers' Opportunity." jNext Mr. a. u rarner 01 smyr na made a very able speech, nisi subject was How did JesuS spend the Sabbath? and how should you spend the Sabbath?" After this an hour was given for dinner, and of the good things imaginable they were spread by the Sunday-school-loving folks of East Lumberton. 'Twas a table that would make any hungry man feel good to look at. When we reassembled the first thing was the roll call of the schools, and of the eight that be long to the institute all were present. The letters sent in bv the schools proved that the Sun day schools of South Robeson are growing better all the time. The Sunday school at Antioch made application for admittance to the institute and was admitted. The report of Gen. Supt. uough was very encouraging. After this report a collection was taken for the Thomasville orphanage, after which the singing contest began; and some very classy music was made by all the schools. After the contest Rev. R. L. Byrd of Tolarsville made a mighty good Sunday school speech. The next one will be held at Long Branch in June in connec tion with the Robeson Union. Twas late in the afternoon when the people began to leave for their homes, realizing that they had been royally entertained by the gocd people of East Lumber-ton. April 7. 1912. Scores of thousands of coal min ers quit work Mondaft thd anthracite-fields and in the 'Central" Competitive Field' of the bituminous part of the industry. Officially the move ment is "suspension" of work. Whether it will develop into a wide-spread strike depends on the outcome of voting in the union ranks and conferences between men and employers within the next ten days. The anthracite men are more apprehensive than the bituminous miners as to the ultimate outcome. This is due to the fact that there is no defin lie agreement immediately in signt for the hard coal men, whereas the bituminous confer ence at Cleveland, adjourned af ter the men's representatives had abandoned practically all their demands except for increas ed wages and on this point mod ified their terms considerably. Upon outcome of voting in the "Central Competitive Field" comprising Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois, will depend the basis for a new wage scale in other sections, where the present wage agreement does not expire until May 1st, or late-. Southern and Southwestern min ers are affected by this status of affairs. Today four hundred thousand men are directly af fected. Some three hundred thousand more, scattered through out the coal districts of the coun try, are watching the outcome. Subscribe for The Robesonian. She writes: "I was a complete wreck always tired, worn out and nervous. I had to spend about one-third of my time in bed. "Vinol, your delicious cod liver and Iron tonic, was recommended, and I can truly say it has done me more good than all the medicine I ever took in my life. That nervous and tired feeling is all gone. I have gained in health, flesh and strength, until I feel like a&other person." (We guarantee this testimonial to be genuine.)
