2 THE SEMI-WEEKLY ROBESONIAN COUNTY ROAD WORK. Business Transacted at Regular Monthly Meeting of Koad Commissioners. The county road commissioners held their regular monthly ses sion Monday. The following business was transacted: A reauest that work be done on the public roads near the"sev en bridges", made in acommuni ration bv VV. H. McCallum. was referred to Supt. J. C. Parish with the recommendation that the work be done as soon aa suf ficient funds are in hand. An or der was Dassed allowing district No. 1 to execute a note to A. L Greenburg Co. for $576. payable 12 months from date, at 6 per cent interest A report made bv A. L. Stone on laving out road in Britt's township was ac cepted and Supt Parish was in structed to survey same. The commitments of Wm. Rowell, Ed. Clark, Wash Maltsby and Berry Hunt were turned over to the board, these having served their sentences on chain-gang and having been discharged. A petition of W. H. Thompson, J. A Kitchin and others for a new road in Alfordsville township was granted, route recommended by Supt Parish to be adopted and all work to be done at cost of petitioners. Supt Parish re commended that cart-way re quested by J. C. McLean of Lum ber Bridge township be allowed and he was instructed to take steps necessary to lay out said cart-way according to law. A. T. Parmele, county purchasing agent was instructed to purchase blankets for the chain-gang. D. A. Jones, superintendent for dis trict No. 2, tendered his resigna tion, which was accepted. It was ordered that R. E. Lewis be paid $50 for damage to farm land in district No. 1. J. D Locklear and Jane ueese were allowed $10 and $2.50, respect ively, for damage to crops, and amounts charged to district No. 4 and like amounts credited to chain-gang account It was or dered that district No. 6 take the chain-gang for 30 days. Bills of varying amounts for the several districts and funds were ordered paid, the totals be ing as follows: Districts No. 1, $398.76; No. 2, $85.89; No. 3, $448 66: No. 4, $484 80; No. 5. $50.50; No. 6, $18.25; general fund, $4.50; chain-gang, $832.29; bridges, $325. Barnesville News Batch. Correspondence of The Robeaonian. Barnesville, Oct. 4-A meet ing is going on at the Methodist church this week. The pastor, Kev. Mr. Moyie, nas no one helping him, but he is preaching some mighty good sermons. We are proud ot our young men who compose the band of our village. They are doing well under the leadership of Mr. Nel son. They and the young ladies of this place are preparing to give a concert Wednesday night and after the concert there will be sold some refreshments. They are expecting a large crowd as they seem to be preparing every thing on an extensive plan. The new patent desks for the Barnesville high school have come, and are being installed. We are also proud that we can boast of having one of the best schools in old Robeson. Mr. Am nions, the principal, is conduct ing the school in a way that makes a person think he is in some college. He is assisted by Miss Keetter of Buie's Creek and Miss Powers of Boardman. Rev. R. A. Hedgpeth married a young couple Monday, hey seemed to be in quite a hurry but no one happened to come in time to prevent the happy event The couple was Mr. Max Davis and Miss Ethel Warrick. Mrs. Darcus Leggett of Lum berton is visiting friends here this week, Mrs. Helen Powers is spend ing a lew days with her son near Boardman.
