The Robesonian has received a reminder of the rule of the Postoffice Department which prohibits newspapers from sendinsr DaDers through the mails at regular rates to sub scribers who are more than a year in arrears. This is not a matter of choice but of neces sity, so we shall have to dis continue sending the paper to subscribers who are in arrears We do not want to lose a single subscriber by reason of this Ian. Look at the label on your DaDer and be sure not to let your time run over. to Two and a half bales of cotton to the acre our Fairmont corres pondent tells about in this issue- Good farming. We confidently expect to see the time when that will be the usual yield in Kobe- son. It is not as unusual now in Robeson as one might suppose. Te who wonder sometimes about that slick little phrase "un- -der the auspices will be inter ested to know that The Robeson ian is informed that the "au spices" of a certain supper which is to re given soon win be used to paint a school hou9e. We hope the 'auspices will be satisfac tory, for that's a good cause. Robeson county is one of three counties in the State, we believe. that has a county superinten dent of health employed for his entire time. We hope that Rob eson's Senator or one of its Rep resentatives in the next Legis lature will further confer dis tinction upon the county by in troducing a bin to provide a State-wide vital statistics law. For an excellent article on the necessity for such a law in any effective health work see the November Bulletin of the North Carolina State Board of Health, The Rowland Sun claims that Senator Simmons was re-elected by Republican votes. It would be profitable for The Sun to con sider the following facts: One of the two townships in Robeson county whjch &ave Kitchin a iarger vote tnan bimmons is Raft Swamp, and Raft Swamp is usually Republican; and his lead over Simmons was larger in Raft Swamp than it was in the nly other township in this county in which he led, the al ways-Democratic township of Alfordsville. Id Maxton town ship the alarm was put out, it is said, about Republicans voting for bimmons, and we have it on jfood authority that the only man in that township who voted the Republican ticket and then tried to vote for Senator wanted to vote for Kitchin. The truth of the business is that all three of the candidates for the Senate received votes from men who had formerly voted the Repub lican ticket. Adjourned for Term ThunUy Disposition of Case. Late Friday afternoon while driv ing fro:n the country on the Fair mont road, about 3 miles from town, Mr. W. P. Barker and son. C. M. Barker, saw a bear that was the oc casion of much excitement. It was a black hog bear, and the Messrs. Bark er say that there is no question but that what they saw was a bear, it crossed the road only a short stance ahead of them and its tracks were seen by several. Dr. D. Regaji, . who always has on hand a "tew hounds, and who, by the way is a hunter that s indeed a lover of the sport, was notified of what had been seen. The news spread fast and in a short time a large crowd had gone in pursuit of the bear, but there was nothing doing. The tracks were there and the dogs barked some, but the bear was not routed. M.
