A Warning to Farmers Fakirs PeL dling- Ordinary Seed Potatoes and Corn at Exorbitant Prices-Beware of Seed Peddlers. To the Farmers of North Carolina: Sometime ago we notified the farm era of the State that certain seed fak irs were abroad selling various kindaJ of seeds for exorbitant prices. Notwithstanding some of these fak irs have been arrested they are again at their old tricks of selling seed po tatoes for $6 per bushel that cannot be worth more than good seed potatoes from the ordinary seed houses. They are also selling corn for $4 per bush el that is not likely to be better than what you have in your own crib. We warn you again to beware of these seed peddlers and take the matter up with the North Carolina seed labora tory before you are taken in by them. The extravagant claims these fel lows are making for their seed pota toes that they are are bug-proof can not be other than false claims to de ceive you into buying an ordinary arti cle, at a very high price. Therefore, let 'them severely alone and buy your seed from reputable see houses that have a license to do business in this State. Approvd: W. A. GRAHAM, Commissioner of Agriculture. J. L. The most dili-1 gent inquiry, on my part, on the dav after the murder, failed to find a man I who believed Wooten intended anv- thing immoral in his visit to the home of Jetton. After Wooten was buried many false reports were circulated. " Of course, it is all over now. and one of the cleanest men I ever knew has gone down under a cloud." 1 It will be noted that Dr. Clark bold-' ly states that Dr. Wooten was "mur- ! dered." j The County Commencement. Salisbury Post. L. C. Wright in the Progressive Farmer says that the Farmers' Union can engage in no work that would be productive of greater results in the educational field than the task of in teresting people in the courity com mencement. Having observed the coun ty commencement we believe we can say from this one experience that Mr. Wright is right. The county com mencement does good in many ways. It emphasizes in a general way the great question of education. It brings our school interest of the county clos er together, it brings about a friendly rivalry, which is condusive of good, spurring the pupils and teachers on to do better workl It focuses atten tion of the pupils on the rural schools and their needs. It gives the children of the schools opportunity to get a broader and wider vision of life, and it brings together people from all sec tions of the country in a social way which argues .for better social condi tions. Our experience with the county com mencement last year was perfectly satisfactory, we would say, and the indication are (tnat tnis year will find the event more interestiimr and more useful. Manly Hatch, keeper of a com missiary of a lumber company in Tim ber Woods near Richlands, was found lying near the camp Thursday with his throat cot. Robbery was the mo tive for the murder. If the parcel post should fail to bring about the establishment on a large scale of the direct dealing be tween the farmer and the consumer, many of its most enthusiastic sup porters would be greivously disap pointed. PostmasterrGeneral Burle son's announcement concerning a "farm products post" will be welcomed because it facilitates such direct deal, ing. Why the "farm to kitchen" business has not expanded, even under the old regulations, it is a little difficult to un derstand. Certainly there is an oppor tunity here for. householders to re duce the cost of living considerably. Our attention has been called to the case of a Marylander who within a week, on a small shipment of eggs, poultry and oysters from the Eastern 1 Shore, costinghiip, $3.40, has effected saving;. Zh:, ",cl luci'"ra cuargeu uy ma locai grocer, lhat is a mighty big percent age of saving. We are inclined to think from an investigation of this subject, that I many consumers have been deterred j from establishing profitable relations with farmers in the county by petty annoyances growing out of misunder standings over time of shipment, the packing of articles and other such things. But those evils are easily remedied After one or two trials For a mild, easy action of the bow els, try Doan's Regulets, a modern laxative. 2K" at all stores. NOTICE.
