Correspondence of The Robesonian. Bladenboro. July 6 Bladenboro celebrated the Fourth in a aafe and sane manner. There were no acci dents or rowdyism to mar' the hap piness of the people who had come to enjoy with Bladenboro the celebration of this notable occasion. One of the features of the day was the patriotic address by Woodbury Lennon, Esq., of the Lumberton bar, also the able in troduction of Mr. Lennon by Mr. F. D. McLean. Bladenboro claims Mr. Len non as one of her sons who has gone out into the world and made good. Our citizens were enthusiastic in their praise of rM. Lennon's effort. Music was" furnished before and during the program by the Bladen, boro Concert Band. This is the one. year anniversary of the Bladenboro band and our people feel that the boys are due lots of credit not only for their services in the exercises, which were given by the boys to the com mittee, but their faithful attendance to all rehearsals required for this occasion. We could net say too much in praise of the splendid efforts of Mr. Robeson, the band instructor, who took active pari in the contests as well as arranging a very appropriate musical programme. At the conclusion of Mr. Lennon's address Dr. M. L. Hooper read the Declaration of Independence in a vervjf impressive manner, jyir. a. a. mi bum then in very cordial terms invit ed all present to partake of the old style picnic dinner arranged for by the ladies of the community. There was a veritable feast of good, things and all declared it to be one of the most bountiful picnic dinners served in these parts. - After all had been served the crowd was invited to the athletic grounds, where vaious contests were carried out and prizes awarded. These athletic feats were enjoyed by the old folks as much as the children. The crowd that enjoyed these exercises was esti mated to have been at least one thous and people, and Bladenboro feels that she wants to thank these good people for their attendance and also to take the liberty to invite them to come and visit our town again. Our ties of friendship thus formed may -be strengthened. The success of the occasion was due largely to the efforts of the com mittee of this occasion combined with that of efficient co-operation of the Ladies Aid Society. H. C. Raleigh Times. The proposition recently advance! by Major McKinnon for a commission form of govenment for counties prob ably will be a long time coming, bui it ought to be a good thing, when the people of a county realize that all the extravagances in office are paid by taxes. North Carolina could save $100,000 next year if the office of treasurer were abolished in all the counties, the money appropriated t. these officials being - wasted, so far as the people are concerned.
