Oliver on Saturday, October 23 at 3 o clock. After a short bus iness session a lively . dressing-doll contest was participated in. Mrs. T C. Parham and Miss Mae Oliver tie ing for the prize. In cutting, Miss Oliver was the lucky one and was presented by the hostess with a beau tiful flower basket. Mister Frank Jenrette of Board man, arrived today and entered school here. His father, Mr. Jim Jenrette, came with him and is visiting his brother Prof. W. Tom Jenrette. The enrollment in the school continues to grow and more than usual from outside the dis trict have entered. With the com pulsory law beginning next Monday, many new pudhs are expected, iwucn interest is being shown in the music department this vear. On Saturday evening, Oct. 30, in the Woodmen hall a Halloween par ty will be given by the Ladies Aid Scciety. Hallowe'en has always been enjoyable because of the popular su perstitions attached to it. This will be an evening of innocent fun to those who will attend. The elves, wttchesv spooks-nnd imps will be there and several Hallowe en customs and tricks will be participated in. The dnrs will be opened at'seven o'clock and everybody is invited to come. Oysters, cake and coffee will be sold by the Ladies Aid Society. Mr. and Mrs, W. P. Oliver and sen, Master John Frank, are visit ing relatives in Lumberton. There will be a Sunbeam rallyv at White Pond church the first Sunday af. ternoon in November, the exercises be ginning at 2:30 o'clock. "The bands from the Fairmont Baptist church, tru timore and Pleasant Hope, will join the White Pond band in giving this entertainment, and we are expecting a nice time. The leader of our band was away all the summer and .S3 wcrk was dropped, but the chil Iren met and reorganized last Sunday and have gone to work enthusiastically. The time is too short to get' a -good programme for the rally, so wo will give the other bands most of the time now,; but we hope our little folks can do better when we meet at one of tne other churches later. While that number of men. could not tear the shucks from the more than 2,000 bushels of corn in the pile they shucked about 500 bushels and had a good time. They enjoyed it so much that most all of the whole num ber agreed to go back last night and carry somebody and shuck, holler, sing, eat, drink and have a big time in general.
