The United States sugar equaliza.
tion board is taking steps to end
some local shortages" of sugar in
this country by stopping the expor
tation of sugar "for a time," it was
announced in New York Thursday
night.
"There is no general shortage of
sugar in the United States to justify
an increase in price.' said a statement
issued by the board.
"The local shortages are in refined
sugar alone and will last for only a
