We asked a distinguished professor of astronomy once about the weath er. He said, "My young man, the more you learn about astronomy, the less you'll know about the. weather. Since our last write-up, Mrs. Millie McLean of Singletary's X Roads, Mrs. Merilda Flowers of the Globe fio.mn wtion. and Mr. Joseph Ses- soms of East Lumberton have passed to their reward. They were ripe Christians, and the world is poorer for their going. Our eympatny is ex tended to their surviving loved ones and the Godly life they lived is com mended. Judging from what we have seen and heard, the Thanksgiving offer ings this year to the various orphan ages have been the best ever. One ef our members had $325 to give the orphans. He divided it, and gave $125 to his own denominational or phanage, and $100 each to two others of different denominations. He said the cause was the same. Who says that man is narrow? For one, we shall not say it. We are glad to hear the good news of the Baptists campaign victory. We ever spent a moment of uneasiness about it. They told us it was of the! Lord, and we never have heard of a single failure on His part. Praise be! It was an especially delightful so cial event that transpired in the home f Mr. and Mrs. D. F. Britt of the Saddletree section at 8:30 p. m. yes terday, when their beautiful daughter, Miss Fannie, became the bride of Mr. Avery M. Powers of rural route number 4 from Lumberton. The parlor was beautifully adorned for the occasion, and an exquisite arch under which the bride and groom stood while the ceremony was pro nounced, was decorated with ivy and lighted candles. The holy Bible graced the magnificently arranged al tar directly in front, behind which the writer, who is the bride's pas tor, stood to perform the ceremony, and the room was packed with friends and relatives who had gone to share as witnesses and well-wishers of the joyous event. The bridal party, composed of Mr. I A. F. Britt with Miss Grayce Cren-I shaw, Mr. Clyde Powers with Miss Ethel Carlyle, Mr, Duglas Britt with Mi.. SnlliA McDonald. Mr. Herman Parham with Miss Nannie Belle Britt, entered to the strains of . Menaeii nhn'. "woddinflr march." and while tk Mnnonv was being performed Lohengrin's "bridal chorus" was be cominrir rendered by Miss Emma Fleming. All was crowned with the presentation of a very handsome Bible by the officiating minister in behalf of Mr. M. J. Bartcer. wie aonor. The sentiment of Sir Walter Scott as given in the following lines is still very much alive: "Love is the striving Of two snirita to be one. Chamberlain's Tablets. These tablets are intended espe cially for indigestion and constipa tion. They tone up the stomach and enable it to perform its functions naturally. They act gently on the liver and bowels, thereby restoring the stomach and bowels to a healthy condition. When you feel dull, stu pid and constipated give them a trial. Norment's office just after supper time almost ' every evening. They gather themselves together to play checkers, that's alL Among the most frequent visitors are R. O. Ed mund, "Bud" Fisher, A. E. Spivey, Capt Davis of the V. & C. S., Dr. Tom and others I would mention but for a reason their wives. Each and every one of these will tell you (they think they are telling the truth)" that he is the very best checker player in all these coasts; and it's a -fact that they know the game, and know it well. The players will organize themselves into a branch of the State Checkers Tourney soon after the ar rival of the year 1920. Just after he had seen Lieut. Fill more loop the loop and do other stunts over Lumberton Thursday afternoon, an aged darkey was asked if ' he would like to "go up." "Not unless Jesus Christ was driving," was the reply. m w m "While my boy was in France I was almost crazy," remarked an old father recently. Then continuing, he said, "Now that he is back I feel so proud that he went and did his part." There are many fathers and mothers who feel that way about it "Between the 17th and 19th" has passed and yet the end is not. There were some people in Lumberton who had been led to believe that "there was something to it." NOTICE OF ADMINISTRATRIX'S BALE.
