No jail "for him. Pink-' McNeill, colored, was arrested Saturday after noon by Rural Policeman A. R. Pjtt man. Mr. Pittman placed a chain handcuff upon McNeill and was rid ing in the rear, of v Ford wjfth the ne gro and holding to the chain. The 4rd was running along at medium speed, wending its way to the jail house. 'When about a mile from the jail McNeill jumped out of the car. He is a negro, of considerable weight ana wnen he jumped the. chain , cut the, officer's hands, removing quite a bit of fleshy- P?- Pittman' held on to the chain as long as he could, but the weight of the negro caused him to let go and McNeill went into the woods "on high I ear" and- escaped. The officer fired a few shots at the flee ing negro, but judging from the man ner in which the negro kept moving, none took -effect e wa still wear ing the handcuffs when last seen by me onicer.
