Varser of Lumberton wa elected to the Senate by a majority estimated at around 1 ,350 over his Republican oppo-' nent, notwithstanding the fact that St. Pauls, Maxton and Rowland, former Democratic strongholds, , gave a large vote to the Republican, candidate. The vote for State Senator was thesupreme test. With 24 of the . 25 townships of the county heard fronv , vote, from Maxton and Gaddy being merely 'estimated, the vote of L. R,'. Varser of Lumberton, Democrat, was 4r598, a majority of about 1 ,350 over J. C. Srtoddy of Red Springs, Republi can whose vote was approximately 3,237. That gives Varser a majority without the vote of his home township, Lumberton.
