The Sampson boys are said to have a last aggregation and it is known that they' have a wonderful pitcher in Pearson. Jim White who was man. ager of Kinston in the Eastern league will be in charge of Clinton here. AH of these games should be fine ex libitions and it is hoped the fans will torn out in large numbers. The re mainder of the week will probably be spent on the road. One Game Lost The local club's record for the week jast was four games won, one lost and one tied. The one game lost was at Wadesboro Thursday, the home . team winning 2 to 0. Hines and Roberson engaged in a pitcher's duel. The breaks were against Hines, however, and Wades, horo copped. R. H. E. The Wadesboro people, who spoke in very high terms f the conduct of the Lumberton play ers, both on and off the field, wanted the club to remain there for another game Friday. Thia could not be ar ranged as Lumberton had to play in Hanuet on that date. t Hamlet Again Easy. ..Hamlet proved to be soft picking for the Tramps Friday who ran away with the Railroaders 12 to 5. 'A slow drizzle throughout the game made perfect play impossible. Cameron and Pulliam led the offen sive against the Hamlet slabmen and never before had they been subjected to such a bombardment. Fifteen kits, including three triples and six doubles, tell the story.' Fast work in the Hamlet outfield cut off several ther prospective triples. Had the park been enclosed it is probable a' iome run record for the season would lave been established. . This game gave Lumberton two out f three from Hamlet during the week, the third being a tie. Maxton, one of the leading clubs of the Interstate League- was badly out. classed here Saturday, the locals win ning 17 to 1. The visitors made but three hits and would not have scored ut for an error in the first frame. The Tramps turned the final inping into a farce, every man on the club shifting positions and giving the spectators a' little comedy for their! money, the game having proved a dis appointment. It was sold and after the sale it was found that it lacked 35 cents of .bringing enough far pay the Ware house charges. The -warehouseman told the woman that she would have to pay him the 35 cents,"I hasn't got it boas', but I'se gwine to bring you a chicken," was the answer she gave him. A few days passed and the old woman returned. She looked up the warehouseman and told him she had bought him two chickens. "Why did you bring two," he asked. "I brought another load of tobacco", was the re ply.' This did not happen in Robeson county. ; ...''.-"' B. S. E. bought a "mess" of fresh fish one night recently. He was not going home at the time and placed -them in a certain, place, expecting to get them when he was ready to "go in"; When he started home he could owner to drive up to a gasoline tank not remember where he placed the and call or one gallon. Times have changed, you know. fish. Several days later he remember ed, but it was too late. - - It's a sight hew prone we are to see the baa and overlook the rood in folks. Just think how seldom you hear one person lennng oi some good deed done by another as compared with the times you hear, somebody "talking about" their neighbor; It's glory to scatter the newsabout a Qerso& when it's bad, but if it be good the glory is not nearly f so great. Had you thought about it? :". ' ' Think of the terrible conditions ex isting in Russia, China and v other parts of the world, then thank God you are living in America. Suppose your child had died for' the want of food! A -lady arrived here Friday from Bolshevik Russia. She brought three of her children with her. but the fourth--an 18-year-old daughter- was left "behind, having starved to death. They're buying it by the gallon now. It's nothing unusual for 'an automobile The time was when a man was judged by his car. He is now judged by his bank account that is if he has such a thing. . ' You can't judge it that way. I note that a certain paper offers increased church membership as argument that the world is growing better. It may be growing . better, but that's not so much of an indication as one. might think. ,' ' . Robeson county hams are selling, at 40 'cents the pound and t they -are" scarce at that. It appears to me that there is more money in raising hags ' than in growing the golden weed. .Yet many farmers are eating "store bought" meat. Mesdames E. D. McNeill and Edna Stone returned home Saturday night from Augusta,. Ga., where they spent 'ne time visitine at the home of Mrs. Stone's son, Mr. Willie Stone. ooooooopooooooootoooooboooooooooo GEORGE GIBSON Baseball fans of the land read the announcement of the appointment of the veteran catcher, George Gib son, as manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates last spring without mani festing the least bit of interest. Now they are- rubbing wondering eyes and asking is it possible that the lowly Pirates are going to cop the National League.- pennant and cut in ort the world Series play? Gib son has moulded the "fightingest" team in either league. ..They're in front - - Walter Sutherland, negro, is held under a $2,000 bond for trial in Cum berland county court for an attack on Miss Bessie Palmer, 13-year-old white girl of Fayetteville. Miss Palmer says that the negro last 'Tuesday morning on the Ray avenue bridge seized and choked her and tried to drag her when he was frightened away by her screams. CHAMPION??? Jaw MLrLouic VoJre Is the supcrracc to come from western America? Twice has Henry Savage, .the theatrical producer, found it necessary to have a beauti ful big girl in a stellar role of a pro duction and each time he has had .to turn his eyes to the west to find them. First attempt was answered, by California but the more reccn! call found a Missouri maiden the choice, Miss Louise Dose, of Kan sas City, abcaut'M sontr bird who is ,six feet tall. When this western' girl visited eastern art centers, where she studied, she was hailed by artists and sculptors as a "Mod ern Juno." It was there that Sav-. age was attracted to her talent and persuaded her to give up Grand Opera ambitions for ; -cascn or two in Lady Billy. JLntoe HEALTH AND HYGIENE Conducted by ih. E. R.
