Fairmont New* Series of Meeting* Will Begin Sun day at Trinity Methodist—Work Began on New Chnrch—Dime So ciety Meet*—Personal. By Mrs. H. G. Inman. Fairmont, Sept. 18—The Dime so ciety of toe Methodist church was entertained last Friday at the home of Mrs. E. J. Chambers, on Iona street, Mesdames John Lewis and A Byron Holmes assisting hostess. Chairs were arranged g oh the spaci ous veranda for the occasion. After the husin<ess was dispensed with they had their "purse opening". This society clothes a ehi!d at the Raleigh Methodist orphanage 4nd twice each year they bring their collections which have been saved away in a certain !i tie parse given by the so ciety. The collection amounted to $16 Friday and only about half the mem bers were present. After the purse opening an automo bile contest was entered into which mobie contest was entered into which provoked rounds upon rounds of laughter. But the most laughter when the question was asked, what make of automobile to avoid? When Mrs. Mary Thompson slapped her hands and said "Dodge! Miss English Wade of BamesviHe is visiting her uncie and aunt Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Fioyd. Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Pittman and daughter, iittie Miss Geraidine, spent iast week in Wiison and Pine Tops. Mr. and Mrs George L. Grantham and children havd returned from a week's visit to Mr. Grantham's bro ther, Dr. Grantham, at Asheviie. Mr. and 3%rs. W. L. Moore spent a few days iast week in Hookerton on business. Miss Omege Stone of McDonald is spending the winter with her brother and sister-in-iaw Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Branch of Wilmington and Mrs. Thomas Edward Gray and Thomas Edward 2nd of Portsmouth, Va., are visiting their parents and grandparents Mr. 'land Mrs. Sweum, on North Main street. Miss Dorothy Ricks left Wednesday for Charlotte, to enter Queens col lege. - a Miss Annie Lee McDaniel went Saturday to Marietta, where she wiii be a member of the Marietta schooi faculty. She wiii also teach music. I Miss Aima Fioyd, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Fioyd, is n member of the faculty of Ciinton graded schooi, having ieft iast week to take up her work there. Miss Johnny Ciyde Humphrey of Fayetteviile has returned to her home after a pieasant visit with Mr. and Mrs. P. P. Smith. I Captain A. G. Haimes Jr., of Camp Vaii, N. J., and Mr. C. C. Hoimes of the University of North Carolina spent a few days with their brother and sister-in-iaw Dr. and Mrs. A. Byron Hoimes. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. The preliminaries for making the ninth Robeson county fair to be heM in Lumberton October 9-12, the best ever he!d in the county, are fast be ing completed. Mr. W. O. Thompson, secretary, reports encouraging pros pects for more and better exhibits of a!I kinds than ever dispiayed at any previous fair in Lumbert°n. ' Among the many things he has se cured for the amusement of the pub lic will be the iargest fireworks dis play that has ever been brought to this part of the State each night dur ing the fair. It is the purpose of the fair offi cials to provide plenty of entertain ments for fair visitors from the jtime they enter the gate until they ieave the grounds. One °f the main 'features of the midway will be one iof the best dog and pony shows on the road besides the many other shows that will be here. The ferris wheel, the merry-go-round, whip and iali the latest riding devices wiil be here also. i Competent judges have been se cured for every department. The ! department managers are anx ious to have their depart ments full and they are depend ! ing on you to help them. Have some thing on exhibit and let others know what you are doing. The town of Raeford last week soid improvement bonds in the sum !of* $70,000. This pays for a mile of {paving completed recently, part of which the State paid for separately. Joseph P.
