E Steele spent last week-mid in Ra leigh with her daughter, Miss Mar jorie, who has been teaching near there this season, returning . home Tuesday night, spending the day among old acquaintances in her for mer home town, Lumberton, while enronte to St. Paul. Miss Steele's School closes within the next few days and she is expected home some time next week, her friends will he glad to note. Mr. A. R. MeKachern <s spending several days in New York looking after business interests. The entertainment given by the American Legion auxiliary on Tues day evening was greeted by a iarge appreciative audience. The entire program, which featured numerous musical selections, was well gotten up and most auspiciously carried out in every way, to say nothing of the mock wedding which of course was ddcidcdly a hit among all and proved a delightful conclusion. $43.80 was -realized, which will be used to assist ip furnishing the boys' sun parlors at O'teen. Miss Magaret McGeachy arrived Wednesday afternoon from near Me hane, where she was a member of the school faculty this season. She has with her one of her pupils, Miss Agnes Scott, who stopped over for a brief visit while enroute to Flora Macdonald college, where she wii! attend commencement. Friends of Miss Maggie Wilkerson of Laurinburg were glad to have her come over for a short while yesterday afternoon, she having accompanied her brother, Robert, who was en route to his farm beyond town. Both returned in the late afternoon. Mr. Marion Howard, who taught in Sampson this season, has arrived home for the summer vacation. Dr. R. G. Rozier's friends are glad to see him on the streets again fol lowing his recent illness. Mesdames J. A. Johnson and N. A. MeEachem and Miss Mary Janet McNeill were Fayetteville visitors Tuesday afternoon. Friends of Rttv. R L. Byrd, who resides near Tar Heel, regret to learn of his serious accident, which occured Thursday while attending the South ern Baptist convention in Atlanta, Ga., whe he waa run over; by an auto, suffering a broken leg. Mr. Byrd is a brother-in-law of Mr. Harry Fi sher, formerly of Tar Heel, Who last year moved to the McGeachy home stead beyond town. Mrs. W. T.
