There was a very interesting mis
sionary program given at the Delco
Baptist church Sunday, October 5.
The Acme-Delco school is expecting
to attend the Columbus county fair at
Whitevill October 30-31. We hope to
be successful in the contests we take
part in. • . „
The little son of Mr. and Mrs. A.
A. Peterson died Saturday morning
with double pneumonia and whooping
cough; He was buried Sunday even
ing at Levingston chapel.
The Ladies Aid'society of Delco
will meet at the home of Mrs. T. W.
Pridgen Thursday evening- October 9.
The Acme-Delco orchestra will meet
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. B.
McAuley, Thursday evening at 8

Rex, Oct. 7.—Several Rex people
attended the funeral of Mr*. J. S.
Jernigan, at Parktnn last Friday.
Mrs. Jernigan was the mother of Mrs.
T. C- Lewis of this place, who haa the
sympathy of the entire community.
Mr. J. E. McDonald of Pamlico, S.
C., spent the week-end with hi* moth
er, Mr a Martha G. McDonald, also
Misses Ruth and Mae McDonald of
St. Pauls.
Mr. and Mrs. Bernie Bristow and
children are visiting Mr. Bristow’s

Mr. J. M. Mclver left Friday to
attend a family reunion at the home
of his brother-in-law and sister, Rev.
and Mrs. J. J. Harrell, at Bessemer
City. He returned Monday by way
of Greensboro, where he visited his
laughter, Miss Julia Mclver, at N.
C. college.

Death.

Rowland, Oct. 7.—Friends and
neighbors of Mr, Frank McLean were
shocked and saddened Saturday
morning when the news was receiv
ed that he had beeh claimed by the
hand of death. But we had the con
solation of knowing that he is not
dead, but just asleep in Jesus^ and is
with us in spirit, though not in body,
lie was one of Robeson!* oldest and

one, whit#jor vblack. His most honor-1
fable 'possessions were Christianity

To know him was to love him, and to!
gaze on his radiant face certified!
that he was always happy, for he j
always wore a smile. Never was a I
man more generous, kind-hearted,
and true; with that good nature of
doing for others. He was a loyal and
faithful member of Ashpole church.
His life was spent storing up, riches
in heaven, and what a beautiful ex
ample he set for us, if we only fol
low it.
In early life he was married to
Miss Aginora Bullock, who has been
an ever-faithful, tender helpmate, in
joy and in sorrow.

limb and bitten on an ear by a pilot
snake which became disentangled
