The American otKco is Huppliml with all the material necessary for turning out Printing of every description in the best and most expeditious manner, and at prices that will satisfy all who may favor it with their orders. The Sheriff of Catawba county, last Tuesday, transferred nine prisoners, con victed of grand larceny at the late term of the court at Newton, to the penitentiary. Several were white and for various terms, tho longest 10 years. The preliminary survey being made by. the Engineers of the Midland Kailroad from this point appears to give them satis faction, the grade being much lighter than was anticipated. They are working in earn est, and will push the work as rapidly as possible to completion.. Quite a number of the Statcsville mer chants and others accepted of the invitation extended to them by the merchants of Char- lotte to visit that place. From indications Charlotte must have reaped very material bene fit from the many who went from the western section, of which they are worthy for the energy they always display. A Great Discovery by a Great Man. This, primarily, is what Warner's "Safe Nervine is. The great man is one oL the most famous physicians. lie found a harm less remedy for all kinds of pain, others im proved it. and the final result is, the Safe Nervine now manufactured only by II. II Warner & Co. Xotlce. The American has a general circulation in the following counties, offering advanta geous inducements to those who desire to make known their lines of business to the public: Iredell, Itowan, Davie, Yadkin, . Wilkes, Alexander, Catawba, Mecklenburg, Lincoln, Gaston, Cleveland, Burke, Bun combe, McDowell, extending into other ad jacent counties and other States. Convicted. Tho nine persons indicted for robbery in Catawba county wero tried last week before Judge Gilmer, at Newton, and all convicted of larceny. All were sentenced to. the peni tentiary for ten years each, with the excep tion of a man named Sullivan, who, on ac count of his age, being about 65, received a sentence of seven years. It is thought an effort will be made for a new trial, and that it will be granted. We are indebted to Dr. W. F. Millen, son of the late Dr. Millen, of this county, but now of Clayton, 111., for a copy of the Commencement Exercises of the 39th Ses sio.n, College of Physicians and Surgeons, Keokuk, Iowa, of which institution he is a graduate. Also, to tho publishers, P. M. Hale and Edwards, Broughton & Co., lialeigh, for a Report of the University Normal School for 1879, ". ' Long, who resides about two Dwelling Burnt. Dr. J. F, and-a-half miles west of town, on the Lewis Fery road, had the misfortune of having his dwelling and very near its entire contents destroyed by fire about oVtock on the night of the 4th instant. The family were all asleep, at the tina,e, and the conflagration was not iliscovied until it had gained con siderable headway, barely giving them time to escape from the building and the saving of a few articles of furniture, clothing and bedding. The house was comparatively a new structure, and one of the best arranged for comfort in the county, the Doctor having added greatly to it since his residence, Ilia loss, as we learn, is about $3,300, with no Insurance. It is. thought the fire originated; from a stove-pine. From a well-known citizen of Chicago. Chicago, III., Jan. 1, lH.no. II. II Wariitr it: Co.. lloclwAlsr. Ar. Y Gentlemen : I have used Warner's Safe Kidney and Liver Cure with the greatest satisfaction. It is the only remedy I have ever used that I can recommend to my friends, as it has cured me of Rright's Dis ease of long standing, afler having visited the White Sulphur Springs of Virginia, and trying innumerable so-called remedies " of the day. Having resided here for forty seven years, my friends will be glad to see this statement. The discoverer is, indeed, a public benefactor. William II.
