From these tsperimer.tt it aj jiears that the rHisinf; of Silk Worms is not only very simple, but attended with lit tle: labor, nd dors not divert the har dy hand of men from the work of their fields, as women, girb and boys, may be advantageously employed in spread injj the leaves of the White Mulberry Ttee, whith U ail the nourishment the Silk Worm requires. Shortly after the Declaration of In dependence, many cf the ladies of Philadelphia turned their attention to raising the silk wornn at their own homes, and they wore gowns of silk of their own raising; and to this day, rows of the mulberry are still standing in the vicinity of that tity. Numcr our enures could be here enumerated, why the fjood work was not persever ed in. But the object of the writer is, to induce thousands, who cannot bt, more profitably employe.., to re-com- jmrnct, or Mart anew, in one or tnc in "St delightful pursuits and for thii purpose (jive the following experi ment : In the first week of May, when the leaves of the Mulberry l.ejjun to ex pand, the writer, whr) resides about two miles from Philadelphia, took out of a China tureen, a paper up.n which the buttu flies of the preceding year had deposited their t-ggs. i he tureen had remained untouched in a closet of an upper room on the north side of this house, where thtre had been no fie. The paper of epgs were opened before an open window, in order to ascertain whether they would hatcn by the Mm- pie action of the atmosphere, w ithout the aid of artificial heat. Between the 5th and 8th of the month, more worm?, not larger than ants, weie hatched, than he could keep with the small quantity of Mulberry trees he hud been able to collect. In the piaza fronting the scut!:, wainscoated, closed with ten vtrindows, and Chinese blinds, u wire ten feet by four was prepared. The worms at tached themselves to the branches of the Mulberry, laid on the paper where they had hatched, and then deposited on trie wireframe. Ao extent of about 18 inches square was at first siifficifnt to contain the whole of the worms. The Ircsh leaves were distributed to them with a free hand.
