O O 0 0 o "-floor, "where he wasstreached on a board, an '1 search ed, in order to ascertain if lie had any arms con cealed. A poinard was found in his side pocket. Mr. Gisquet, who was then in the Tuilleries, with several other functionaries, immediately repaired to the uard-house, and proceeded to examined the individual arrested. lie refused to tell his name, 3nd when recognized by several persons, who knew him and said he was a commercial traveller, and that his name wa3 Alibeau, he pretended that AU benu was an assumed nam, and refused to nive his real one from regard to his family. Ho was then aked if he had been agitated while aiming at the Kins: ; and if it was not his agitation that had de ranged the direction of his aim ? He replied with much composure, that he had felt no emotion ; and that if he had missed his aim, it was owing to his having received a shock or push, for which he could not arcount. He was finally asked, if he repented his crime ; he answered in the negative, and add ed, that if it was to be clone over again, he should not hesitate to do it ; that he had no further ex planation to give, because in this age of egotism, in which any thing like conviction or devotion was no longer to be found, no one could appreciate or understand his motives ! "During his examination active inquiries were made, mid it was discovered that this young man had entered the Place de Caroussel, "about four o'clock, by the gate of the Triumphal Arch ; that lie had conversed some time with a National Guard an indifferent matters, and left him when he taw the King's carriages proceeding from the stables to tho Palace, saying I think the person that I am waiting for will not come, and went off in thedirec io:i of the Court. He repaired from thence to the Palace next to the quary, and there remained in a groupe of people who were waiting for the King's departure. His appearance it seems did not awa ken suspicion, and no one observed the cane he car ried in his hand, and which contained the deadly weapon. This instrument led to the discovery of Albeau. By an extraordinary change the gun inn fcer, who manufactured it (a sergeant of the National Guard) happened to be on duty at the Tuillerics, and It-It it incumbent, on him to jjive the Magistrate; every information in his power. He stated that the weapon seized on the assassin had been madu n his establishment, with many others of the saino kind; that he was aware of its being a violation of the laws to have made and sold such a weapon ; but that as the affair was ol so serious a nature ho did rot hesitate to confess it. The lodging of the in dividual arrested was then discovered, and the -wu;r of the house having been sent fir, recogm '?d the prisoner to be Albeau. He said he had lodged in his house, but that he had gone off with out paying him, leaving in pledge his passport, whic'i lad been delivered him in Lyons, and mentioned his bavins been born in that city. On being con fronted with the National Guard, he had con- versed w ith at the gate of the Curroussel, he coo'l !v asked him "Did you observe that I betrayed the least emotion while speaking with yen V Af ter this confrontation. Albeau was placed in a hack ney coach and conveyed under a large escort to ih? Conciergie, where he no doubt underwent an other examination. He was lodged in the room lonaorly occupied by Fieschi. He was dressed in a neat frockcoat, but his shirt was dirty and in vj, and was without stockings. About 1:2 o'chick hst night the Attorney General and the Prefect of th Police were still at the Conciergie, inferrogi tinir him. Albeau, or the individual known by that name, is tall and slim ; his hair black and coia plcxion.pHle. Twenty-two sous (lid) were found :u his pockets. " In the evening, all the Ministers the Peers, nnd the Deputies present at Paris, went out toNeu illv, to congratulate the King on his escape. His ?.lijesty was to receive a deputation of both Chaui b?rs on Sunday, in the place of the Twi! Series. It is said that the Queen tool; out of the King's hair .some 'of the wadding that had been lodged therein. It was also reported that a Courier had b-en des patched to the Duties of Orleans anJ Nemours, to invite them to return in all l.ate to Paris." FIAT JUSTITIA "h,J f, n cat ca-Lr:i. Hur rah f-T -the good caiic ! TUG RESULT Or THE ELECTION'. The election is now over, and we have returns enough before us to soeak confidentlv of tfir rfwnlt t Xit tar as respects the Governor's election. It is now cer- tain that the U tug cause has triumphed by a very con siderable majority. Richard Dobbs Kpaijjht, the Van Buren Candidate has not been permitted to enjoy his darling honors long. Ho was put in last winter by the Van Bijren faction who misruled the Legislature, and he is now put out by their masters the wvereign peo ple. He is "the Iat of the Mohens." General E. B. Dudley, the Whig Candidate, is elected Governor for the next two years. Before the election came on it was admitted by all parties that the vote for Governor would decide the Presidential question in North Caro lina, for it is notorious that the content turned wholly on general politics. Well, the election is now over, and the Whig1 cause has triumphed most gloriously, and by the same sign, Xorth Carolina, is now, henceforth, and forever lost to Van Buren, and the spoils pirty. Asue ded as Dudley's majority is over iSpaiirht, we have Cl- no doubt in November next the H"A ite majority over Van Ba ren will be ttill greater. After this demonstration will any of the oiiice holders-, or office .seekers in North Caroli na still have the hardihood to say that Van Buren has any chance, the smallest whatever, for the State ? If so, it will be altogether for effect, and all intelligent men will know what to think of it. As to the Legislature, we cannot yet speak confident ly how pirtics stand. We have several counties yet to be heard from. It is believed ho.vever, taat the Whigs w ill have the majority in both Houses, or at least in the Senate. But even if it should turn out that tho Van Buren men have, by management, and drill, obtain a ma jority joint ballot, it will avail them nothing, fur sure ly alter what vc have heard from that quarter, no Van Buren man would be to iucouf-intent as to accept of tho post of Senator when it is so notorious that the people of the State are against Van Buren, and all his actings ami doings. Have we not seen tlieni denounce .Mr. ilangum from one corner of the State to the other, fur holding on to his seat when there was some reason to suppose that the State was against him ! and, will they now couit: tbrward (if in their power), and do whit heretofore they have so violently denounced ! We must say, that we think better of them, we even believe that Bedford Brown himself so soon as he ascertains that a majority of the State is againatfii si, will promody resign. In those opinions we may be mistaken, but it would be a slander on lh-i Van Buren party to suppose otherwise after all thoy have said and written on this tuhject. At all events, let us wait and see how they will act un der all the circumstances of the case. DAVIDSON. oiticiai. stati:mi: r of the roib cz "y. "r. " -" -3 (v.) 1151, Sinn (V. P..) 1100, Hurdh? (V.
