A GRAND POEM.
Th fcllowlng poem is aaicl to have been de
livered by Miri LUiie Doten, a xpiritual trance
speaker, whilst under the Influence of the spirit
cf Edgar A. Poe. I Whether its originality can
be ascribed to M im Doten I know not ; bat its
similarity to "The Kaven" so justly ' celebra
ted is sufficient to claim the attention of all
form of literature. Though devoid of an or
finality of style, it nevertheless posseces mer
which should net be entirely Ignored. As I
bave seen it appear in any but a Northern week
ly, I have conceived the idea that its perusal in
yoar columns might prove af some Interest tq
the varm-hearted Southern people. Hence
respectfully solicit space in your next issue.

' From the throne of life eternal, ''
From the home of love supernal, ,
Where the angels make music o'er the starry
floor, in ;'j .
Mortals, I have come to meet yon ;
And with words of peace to greet yoq ;
And to tell you of the glory thai is mine forev-
.-. ;,ermore. T;f .Vf'ij,jiVf tf- it
Once before I found a mortal , T
Waiting at the Ileayenly portal
Waiting out to catch some echo from the ever
. i .'. opening dcMjr j ' ,
-Then I seized tRe quickening being, -
- Caused my burning inspiration in a fiery flood
' to pour. , :
oome more meekly human,
And the weak lip? of a woman,
.Touched with fire from off the altar, not with
,' burning, as of yore :
Bat In holy love descending,
With her chastened being blending,
. I will fill your soul with music from the bright
-e i '
ceiesuai snore.
As one heart yearns for another,
From the golden gates of glory, turn I to the
earth once more ;
Where I drained the cup of sadness,
And life's bitter, burning billows swept my
bnrdoned being o'er.
Here the harpies and the raven,
Human vampires, sordid cravens,
Preyed upon my soul and substance, till I writh
ed In anger sore ;
life and I then seemed mismated,
For I felt accursed and fated,
Like a wrestleas, wrathful spirit, wandering th
Stygian shore.
Tortured by a nameless yearning,
Like a fire-frost, freezing, burning.
Did the purple, pulsing life-tide through its
feeble channels pour.
Till the golden bowl, life's token,
Into shining shards was broken,
And my chained and chafing spirit let from out
its prison door , ;
But, whilst, living, stirring, dying,
; Never did my spirit cease crying :
"Ye who guide the fates and furies, gWe,
oh t give me, I implore
From the myriad hosts of nations,
From the countless constellation
One pure spirit that can lore me one that I
, too, can adore."
Through this fervent aspiration
Found my fainting soul salvation ;
Far from out its blackened fire quick did my
; ; -spirit soar, 4
And ray beautiful ideal,
; Not too saintly to be real.
Burst more brightly on my vision than the fan
i cy formed Lenore.
'Mid the surging sea she found me.
With the billows breaking me.
And my saddened, sinking spirit iu her arms
- of love upbore ;
Like a lone, weak and weary.
Wanderirg in the miduight dreary.
On her sinless, saiutless bosom, brought me
to the Heavenly shore.
Like the breath of blossoms blending,
Like the rainbow's seven-hued glory, blend
on souls forevennpre ;
.Earthly lust aiid lure enslaved me,
' Rut divinest love hath saved me,
And I know now, first and only, how to live
. . and now to adore.

Aod the soul which gives most freely from

And giving love you bind it,
Like an amulet of safety, to your heart for-
evermore,
