This irre pressible individual was heard from last Sunday as being in tlNsf neighborhood of Gold Hill. On Monday apossecomitatus, in the person of Sheriff Waggoner, Deputy Shei iff Smkb , and others, proceeded to am buscade the toads in that section. Very soon John Allen and his brother, Lewis Ketchey, came jogging alone in a one horse wagon. They had arrived within ten or fifteen paces before they discovered the Sheriff's posse. John Allen at once sprang into the woods, when the posse, sotre six or eight in all, fired upon him with pistols, carbines, hand shot gun.--. John Allen made no ha), but proceeded on his way with the speed of a deer ; The party claim that he was severely wound ed, find that he could be and was tracked by the blood for miles. Still, he was not captured and has not been since, although large numbers have been in search of him every day, arid th whole country has been scoured for miles around. John Allen is ad hardjlto f capture as he is to keep after-he has peen captured. Those who have undert aken either his keeping or capture have signally failed, Ketchey having out genijralled them with the most pet feet ease. If the story circulated is true, in regard to the wounding of Ketlhcy, it is wonder ful that he ban not been captured. It were impossible for a man wounded as badly as he is'iaid toliajve been to escape the vigiiance of o many pursuers. THE CAREER OF A GREAT REMEDY. Twenty summers have elapsed since it was briefly announced that a new vegetable tonic and alterative bearing the name of Hostet ter'a Stomach Bitters, had been added to the list of restorative medicines. The modest advertisement which invited attention lo the preparation stated that it had been used with success in private pratice as a cure for dyspepsia. bijlious complaiuts constipation and intermittent fever. It was soon discov ered that the article possessed extraordinary properties. Tha people, of every class, test ed i s merits as a to uic, stimulant, corrective and restorative, and found that its effects more than fulfilled their hopes and expecta tions. From that time to the present its course has been upward and onward, and it stands to-day at the head of all medicines of its class. American or imported, in the magni tude of its sales and its reputation as a safe, agreeable and potent invigoraut and restora tive. For languor and debility, lack of ap petite and gastrio- disturbances "so common during the summer months it is absolutely in fallible. Indigestion, bilhuosdisorders, cou stipation, nervousness, periodical fevers, and all the ordinary complaints generated by a viti ated and humid atmosphere, vanish under its renovating and regulating influence. This is its record, avouched by volumes of intelli gent testimony, extending; over a period of a fifth of a century, ami comprehending the names of thousands of well known citizen? belonging to every calling. Iu Euro; e it is thought a great thing to obtain the patronage of royal it y f r a "pateut medicine," but llos tetters's has been spontaneously approved by inilli us of independent Soverigus, and its patent Consists in their endorsement. The following, from the Boston Journal of Chemistry, jsny be interesting at this season, as tin cans may still be in use occasionally in this region of country : The impression prevails among those who use, freely, fruits which are put tip in tin cans, that they are injured thereby, and this impression is in many cases cor rect. We have long contended that all preserved fruits and vegetables should be stored in class, and that no metal of any kind should he brought in contact them. All fruits contain more or less of vegetable acids, and others that are high ly corrosive are often formed by fermenta tion, and the uietalic vessels are consider ably aeted upon. Tin cans are held together by solder, and ulloy into which lead enters. This metal is easily corro ded by vegetable acids, and poisonous salts are formed. Undoubtedly many persons are greatly injured by eating tomatoes, peachev, See., which have been placed in tin cans, and we advise all our friends who comtemplate putting up fruit the coming summer to use only glass jars APRIL 16th, 1873.
