The omission makes a blank in the Ticket, which each voter, we suppose, will fill to suit himself. Whilest speaking of the present Bard of Town officers It is simply due them to state that they have expended more labor on the streets this year than has been done for a long time before ; and as a means of cheap ening the cost of street repairs, they pur chased the land where gravel is usually ob tained, thus securing a permanent source, and that too, at a cost not exceeding the sum heretofore sometimes paid for gravel in a single year. They have done much labor in straighten ing out the financial affairs of the Town. Old and rrnitrnvf'rh'il Haim Iiava bopn ill . . , , , . , ... The New York Sun reports ib introduction of this game into that city and Brooklyn, and says it i "little known in this Country aud few Americans play it." It may be "little knowu" to the present generation in this country ; but it was certainly very general ly khowu in this part of North Carolina between the years 1830 and 1840, and Us frequently played. Like billiards, prtfliing qttoits, or rolling at ten-pins, it is game of skill. Tho only paraphernalia the game is a table 30 or 35 feet long bj f wide, and very smooth, sprinkled with fine sand. The players stand at one end with pieces of rnetnl, similar to lib. Weights in shape and size, which they fnd with a glissade to the other end of the board, aiming to lodgo them between marks scored ncrqsa tbe table near the ".'3. There are doubtless old men herea bouts who know all about it. We only Scribe what we remember having teen 40 or 45 years ago. THE POLL TAX. Can a man's wages be garuisbeed for taxes? We alluded in a very cursory manner, says the Charlotte Observer to this ques tion some days ago. Upon further ex animation ot the eubject, we find the law to be perfectly clear, that a man's wages may be garnishced for taxes due, eituer to the State or Municipnlties. - This power is conferred ou Sheriffs by the 2d section of the Revenue Bill. And the same power is conferred upon City Constables by section 24, chapter 111, Battle's Revisal. bo, all doubts upon tbe subject are now removed. There need be then no delinquent tax payers, if public officers do their duty. A man's wages, debts or claims due him, and whatever else he possesses may be attached for taxes. The Bovden House. Among tbe many attractions possessed by the good old town of Salisbury is that of an excel lent hotel the Boyden House. It is under the efficient management of Mr. William Itowzee, a hotel manager of large experience, and is well kept in every par ticular. Its table and appointments are excellent, and the lodgings neat and com fortable. The Boyden House is a well arransred and well-conducted hotel, and the traveller1 who seeks rcet and refresh ment within fits hospital wa'ls mty be sure of haviug all his reasonable wants provid ed for in a satisfactory manner and at moderate charges. During the larger part of the year our business streets have been lighted with gas, which is aft advancement on the past two or three years, of much importance to those who walk at night, and for the better secu rity of property. And the persistent efforts of the Board for cleansing the Town of nui sances, and thus promoting the public health is also worthy of mention. Acting under their direction and incited by his own pro fessional knowledge of hygenics, the May or's diligence on this subject entitle him and the Board to be regarded as public bene factors. They have also displayed commen dable zeal in preserving public order, for all of which they are entitled to public thanks, and it is. believed that voters desire UTex press their gratitude and unabated confi dence by re-electing them.
