This is a good ae- lection, and good results must follow it. tu Schedule on tbe Rail Roads baa been changed. '1 The U. S. Court baa decided that an amendment to a charter most be adopted at a whole ; that ia, it can not be adopted in part. ExsPreaident Davis arrived at New Yark last Saturday from Europe, jmd proceeded to Tennessee. Dr. Van Meyerltnff, late of Raleigh, proposer, aa we understands to open a musical ennaervatory in tbia city. We wiob him much success. HUTB to a I mounee tbe death Clubs We are indebted to a friend in JkIockoville for a clnb of subscribers. Now is tbe time to send in clubs in order to keep up with YVe regret to of a little child of Capt. P. B. Kennedy, which occurred in this city laat Sunday morning, after a lingering illness, age about fifteen months. The Salisbury Dramatic Club gave an exhibition Wednesday, and, every thing considered, it was a decided success. The young men engaged showed much talent and taste in the performance and general arrangement, and in tbe selection and preparation of tbe scenery. These entertuinments are for a laudable purpose and are worthy of the encouragement of our citizens. Oodey's Lady's Book for July is on our table, bright and interesting aa usual. As long aa ladiea delight ! in fashionable periodicals they will have a preference for those published, and as they are the beat judges of such things and nearly all select Godey, we naturally conclude that it is by far the best magazine of fashions published. Improving We are glad to learn that Lake Blackmer, Esq., who is now on a tour North for his health, has greatly unproved iocs he left home. He is in tine spirits and is try hopeful that he will he enabled to return toon perfectly restored. Do not forget to read Messrs. Mr. Jerry Hi own in painting and other wise iuiproyinghis new dwelling on Iunisa street. Messrs Kluttz & Grupy have gotten their steam saw and grist Mills under way in the northern suburbs. We notice in our city quite an array of Railroad Magnates. Among whom, are Hon. W. M. 8mitli, Thos. M. Holt, Esq. Henry Fries, Esq , Jobu Morchead and others. We are indebted to Hoy. A- 3 Merri mon for a copy of bis great speech, deliv ered in the United States' Senate, May 22nd, 1874, ou the subject of Civil Rights. I ' - - ' - to. t The Radical District Convention, held at Yadkinville, Wednesday, nominated Dr. C. fit Cook, of Wilkes, fr Congress. A. H. Joyce- Esq., for Solicitor, and re commended W. H. Bailey for Judge. Rowan appointed a lafge number of delegates to represent her in the Distiict Convention at Wilkesboroj, on tbe 11th instant. Twelve of her appointees accept ed the bOuor conferred on them and were in attendance. Of these latter 7 were farmers. We mention this fact as indi eating the class of men who are concern ing themselves in behalf of our able Rep resentative, Maj. Wm. M. Robbins.- When farmers leave their plows standing in tho farrowaud go off fifty or a hundred miles to speak tor a candidate, you may know that they are in earnest and "mean business." N. C. College. A friend has sent ns a Catalogue of "North Carolina College," located at Mt. Pleasant, Cabnrrus county. It is antler the Datronasre of the Evange lical Lutheran Synod of N.'O., ard is well and ably managed by Rev. L. A. lVikle, President, assisted by Professors Uubbert Ludwick, Barrier, and tutor Linn. There were in attendance during the past year 115 students, C of whom were in the the ological Department. The . College is pleasantly situated and the charges mod el ate -Chariotlc Democrat. DAVID SCHBHflC, ESQ. Our friends of the Salisbury W.tl...n have done Mr.Schenek, the conservative nominee lor Judge in this District, a very ova.. ? ... .... mjuBwcB m an article published some weeks ago, and which has been copied by Radical papers. Mr. Schenrk proved in bis speech in this city during Court week, that hia Ku-Klux testimony bad been incorrectly reported and grossly misrepresented. Charlotte Democrat. If we bare done Mr. Schenck any in justice it is to be attributed to tbe teati mony referred to by tbe Democrat. This testimony, Mr. Schenck Bays, was pub lished without having been previously corrected by him, and that it contains gross misrepresentations. Mr. Schenck says that no parties were sent to tbe Peniten tiary from bis district, atjeast, after bis testimony was taken. Now, it affords ns pleasure to give Mr. Schenck'a version of the matter. It ia gratifying to hear that Mr. Schenck ex pi:m.N in is wnoie matter to tbe entire satisfaction of bis friends wherever he speaks. Mr. Schenck has publish a card in whieh he shows very clearly that he received, in the Convention whieh nominated him, a majority of the counties, a majority of the Townships, and a large majority of the numerical Conservative strength of the District, and that the Convention was fairly and properly conducted. In view of these facts, we think that Mr. Schenck is entitled to the support of every Democrat or Conservative in hia district, no matter what private or per sonal objections there may be to him He has cleared np the Ku KIux charges against him to the satisfaction of all parties he has clearly won the nomination, he ia a good lawyer, able, zealous and prompt, and ho should be elected. After these facts become known to the people of his District, it would be a burning shame for them to allow Logan to be elected over him. There is now but one obstacle, in the way of his success, and that is, the op position offered by Col. Hoke. Col. Hoke is a high -toned, honorable gentleman and true Conservative, and we are persuaded that he was, like oorself, laboring under a misapprehension of the facts with re spect to Mr. Schenck, otherwise he never would have consented to oppose him, aa an independent. And we have no doubt as he becomes acquainted with all the facts, he will withdraw from the canvass and support Mr. Schenck. Col. Hoke is a gentleman of too much character to be swayed by pasaionor prejudice, and he will not do any thing that will even remotely redound to the benefit of Radicalism. Notice to Belters. All persona indebted to Kerns and Brother either by note or account, at the Li vei l v Stable or Store, or for goods purchased at the auction and not paid for. are hereby notified to pay up at once.
