Disgraceful Riot between Two
Church Congregations.
From the Reading (Pa.) Eajlc, ane 30.
Yesterday there was a disgraceful scene en

from Williamstown, Lancaster county, in which
nearly a hundred male members of the Lulh

A preacner was oodiiy carried on the grounds,
the ualiners of the fence were torn oiTmhH iiuI

I riot prevailed, during winch a number of
men were fearlally beaten. An eve-witnem
from this city, who returned to Readme last
evening, gives the particulars as follows :
The Muddy Creek Church has always been
recognized as a Union Church, and used bv the
Lutheran Keformed congregations. They met
there alternately. Some time ago a majority
of the Lutheran denomination, from some
cause or other, saw fit to agitate the question
of obtaining a charter. Others opposed it, on
the ground that they had no right to have it
incorporated as a Lutheran Church when it
was not so, but was a Union Church. A ma
jority, however, decided to get a charter, which
they did, and there immediately arose a dis
cord and disagreement, the maioritv amoni? the
the Lutherans being aided and abetted by t lie
Keformed congregation, who, it is said, had not
been made aware of the proceedings until it
was loo late.
Yesterday was the first Sunday under the
new charter, and it was proposed to hold Lath
eran services. The anti-charter nartv. together
with the Reformed, mustered all the'ir forces in
front of the church at an early hour, and de
termined that no such services should he
held. The charter party arrived, but did not
enter the church. Matters appeared very fore
boding, but when the Rev. Mr. Heury, the
Lutheran pastor, arrived it was thought the
set vices would be allowed to proceed The
revered gentleman, in the name of the Lord
asked that no disturbance should take place
and he walked toward the church door. Seein
this the crowd of anti-charter lies closed in on
the preacher and carried him bodily outside of
the gates. Then a Mr. Pennypacker endeavor
ed to enter the church, and he in turn was very
roughly bandied. This excited the charter
party, who niched to the fences, tore off palings,
auu men commenced an onslaught. The light
continued lor some time, until two constables

Pain is supposed to be the lot of ns poor
mortals, as inevitable as death, and liable at
auy tune to eome upon us. Therefore, it is
important that remedial agents should be at
hand to be used iu emergency, when we are
made to feel the excruciating agony of pain.
or the depression influences of disease. .Such
a remedial exists in Perry Davis' -Pain Kil
ler, tbe fame of which has extended over
all the earth. Amid the eternal ices of the
Polar regions, or beneath the intolerable and
burning suns of the tropics its irtures ar
knowu and appreciated. And by it suffering
hutnamtd has found relief from many of its
ills. The effect of the Pain Killer unon the
patient, wheu' take j internally in cases of
Cough, Cold, Bowel Complaint, Cholera,
Dysentery, and other afiW.ti. ns of the sys

that can never be forgotten. Its success in
removing pain, as an external remedy, in
cases of Hums. Bruises, ttores and Sprain4,
Cuts. Stings of insects, ice. snd other caus

prominent position among the - medicines of
