Shot. -We understand that a man
was shot last Monday night on the farm
of Mr George Boat, while in the net of
cutting down and distrovine Mr. Bs
corn. Unmitigated scoundrels have been

on him in various ways, destroying his
mill, burning his barn, hay, and commit
ting other outrages. Of late they have

Cloud V. Wilson. A novel scene
took place at Surry Court last Mooday.
The expected contest between Glond, the re
tiring Judge, and Wilson, the newly elect
ed, eaute off at Surry Court last
Monday, Cloud arrived at the Court
house and took bis seat on the bench
about 10 o'clock. He seut the Clerk after
thd Sheriff, but neither returned. In the
mean time Cloud held on to his seat, but
doiug no busines as there were no officers
of the Conrt present. About 2 o'clock
Wilson in company with the Solicitor.

pearatice in the Court-house. Wilsni
formally demand the use of (he Court
room. Judge Cloud persisted thai he
waa still the rightful presiding Judge ot
the Circuit and refused to surrender. A
lively discussion ensued between the two
Judges, each maintaining bis right to pre
side, and each exhibiting his commission.
The discussion was cnt short by the aheriff
demanding of the Solicitor as his legal
adviser whom he should recognize. The
Solicitor, Mr. Joe Dobsoo, instructed the
sheriff to recognise Mr. Wilson aa Judge.
This he did, and proceeded to iuform Mr.
Cloud that he must vacate his seat for Mr.
Wilson. Mr. Cloud refused to obey, and
had to be carried from the bench by main
force. He made no physical resistance
A writ quo warranto waa than served on
Judge Wilson, which was acknowledged
by him, when he proceeded with the buai
nets of the Court.
It is said Mr. Wilaou bore himself with

great dignity throughout. Judge Cloud
was somewhat irate bat relying on the
decision of the Supreme Conrt to which

notice. that he would bo back there to

information waa derived from "mighty
good" men, and we know that, if they
were in error in making the statement to
aa, it was not intentional, or out of any
bad feeling toward, or disrespect for,
"stockholders" who are Dot Grangers. Aa
wa understand it the spirit of charity,
long-suffering, peace, and good will toward
one another, actuates the Grangers in all
their dealings : This spirit is opt only in
culcated by them, but is ene of -the cardi
nal principles of their organisation. If our

Grangers will continue to spread, and
especially in the Shiloh section, until all

The author of ''Rosin the B w," (Says
the Richmond Enquirer ) that favorite
