Ualawf&l Gathering's under stand that the citizens of the Ba stern part of this county, aud ths adj i ling portions of Davidson, are somewhat alarmed at the un lawful deinoustra lions of the negroes, who are represented as holding nightly meetings and frequentlydrilling with anns. Sometimes they make us spell badly and punctuate after a novel style, But these eccentricities are so trifling compared with tbe many good qualities they each and all possess sre have not the In-art to complain." Since we have no Ring backing,-nor govern ment support, we employ boys for two reasons : We can not afford to pay tbe unreasonable wages too often demanded by j iurneymen primers, aud then we are able to render some assistance to deserv ing mothers by giving employment to willing and devoted sous. The disadvan tages and annoyance to be encountered by the employment of inexperienced labor exclusively, must be apparent to all, but we patiently submit to these for the reasons given above, and feel thankfull that we are able to get along so well. Our boys are all quite young and all have widowed mothers, aud they arc struggling honestly and faithfully, as all good boys will, to help their mothers and we feel proud of them, and only wbh we could help them more. They have bad little or no educational advantages other than those of the printing office, yet we buzzard nothing in saying that they are as well, if not better, informed on all pub lic matters as any boys of their age iu the town ; their store of general information ia better, they ean spell better, arrange worda into sentences with more ease and beauty, understand their duties as boys to their mothers and as citisens more ftrHy, and devote themselves to these duties with a better grace and a higher appreciation of their responsibilities than the large majority of boys. We hope ajid believe they all belong in thai class of boys who will grow up to be good and useful citizens, and who will, by industry, application, and strict integrity, demon strate to the world the truth of Pope's justly celebrated lines : "Honor and shame from no condition rise.
