gress. As we have said before, we have
cause to be proud of our representative in
Congress. No State can boast of such
an array of talent, and no State has made
such a record as North Carolina in the
last Congress.

Neither is the Convention, called for

work ,to the people for ratification,
according to good authorities, aud
we hope that it will not do so, not that we
are afraid to trust the people, but because
we are opposed to incurring the additiona
expense of ratification, as well aa to giving
demagogues a chance to get up unneces
aary excitement about a matter that may
be more quietly and equally well disposed
of by the Convention. Let us be sure
that we select our wisest and best men to
the Convention, and we need fear' no
danger, nor feel any anxiety about hav
ing the approval of the people.

We are glad to see that the Char
lotte Democrat takes the same position in
regard to women lectures that we did last
week. It is the only paper in the State,
we believe, that has taken a similar posi
tion. This is gratifying, for we regard
uch interlopers as forerunners of evil.

This is a new bank to be established at
Marion by the stockholders of the Bank
of New Hanover, and the citizens of Mar
ion. The Bauk of Marion will nave am
ple facilities for accommodating the besi-
ncss men of Wilmington, or other points,
who are willing to pay the market value
of money; as nearly all the present capi
tal of the Bank of New Hanover will be
invested in the new institution. This ac

New Hanover will no doubt be followed
by other banks in this State, so no sane

In pursuance of an Act of the General As
sembly of North Carolina, ratified 22nd day
of March, 1875, entitled an 14 Act to change the
time of holding certain Courts,' the Superior
Court for Rowan County wiil hereafter begin on
the sixth Mondar after the third Monday in
March and September.
The spring Term, 1875, of Rowan Superior
Court, will therefore begin on Monday tha tweo-ty-hixth
day of April,
