the revival of the .Rowan Rite Guardt, that
company celebrated it in handsome s'yle. In
full uniform, with drums beating and ensign
waving, they marched through Main St., with
true soldierly tread and bearing, the observed
of all observers. At the Boyden House they
were joined by the Salisbury Silver Cornet Band,
which headed the company, and to the inspir
ing strains of the "Rifie Guard Quickstep" eom

creditable. The first prize was awarded to Mr
Matt. Weant. and the second to Wilburn Fra

which ended the celebration. Everything pass
ed off pleasantly, and we t rust that each indi
vidual member of the company may live to en
joy many more such anniversary occasions.

We then spread the table for the little party

Thus we spent tbe evening, as happy as we
mortals ever are in this world of sorrow. Alas !
some tbat joined in those scenes of mirth are
gone, and ere long we who remain will fol
low. What is life, but a day.

part of the Western farmers is ha ving its effect
on corn dealers in the South, to the prejudice
and damage of the Southern farmers who gen
orally pay no attention to such matters. One
gentleman in South Carolina, a miller, who
formerly bought heavy lots in this place, now
draws his supplies (3,000 bushels at a purchase)
from the West, where he can have his orders
