We have met several genilemen this week who are talked of a candidates for vari bus county offices, and some who are anxjmis to be selected as the candidate forthe respective posUiors assigned them by their friends, and . it is gratifying to say that they all expressed their deter ruination to abide' by the decision f the County Conveutiuni .We,, have had trouble on this score in the past, and it resulted in mischief to all concerned. It will 'be wise fnrsril prospective candidates Ermly to resolve voi to force themselves Into, the canvass either to gratify their owu feelings orhe wishes of indiscreet friends. The true principle iu such cases is for all to wait patiently and let the office seek the man: not the man the office. It is possible for an - aspirant to bultou-hole and pledge' enough men in eachs township to secure himself a nomina tion. Let the people of the County be on their guard against every man who comes to them soliciting tb-ir influence at the nominating Convention: for no man who is really worthy of public trust ill endeavor to forestall or pack the Convention and secure a partial uomiua-' lion, It will he an honor indeed, when the voters of the county shall come to gether to 'select- candidates and their spontaneous choice falls on a man because of his true worth and fitness, It would he more gratifying to an honorable man to be defeated under suoh circumstances, than to carry with him the n flection that he had secured the nomination by artful use of means, or electioneering tricks. We want no such mea in office. It is an unhealthy time for such men to show themselves. . The people are sick, thor oughly disgusted at the conduct of officials low and selfish instincts aud will this year be more watchful against them than ever before. They will be ant to spurn every mau who betrays a sty and mean intent to fore cast the decision of the County f Convention iu his own favor, and they will certainly serve him right.
