Next morning our friend informed the bachelor of his dream and proposed that they, to gether, hire a man and have the stump dug up. This was agreed upon immedi ately, the stump was to be taken out that irw-V. The next moraine the dreamer t-ft surprised to find the stump "done gone:" He went to see the "batcl? and found him, as usuaL taciturn; and espe cially reserved on the subject of the stump. The drenmist thought he ought to have half the treasures and insisted on a division, but the "batch" spake not ami so the matter stands.' It is thought that the treasure was-found and that it amounted to thousands. o Harris of the Concord Sun declines to publish all anonymous communications ii n oil rhromo accompanies the That's only a tlight indueeiuent the writer should be required to wear a I Hue dress jr Kpectacles of that color ? nd that's hardly a : satisfactory penalty i - o THE "NATURAL WALL." Tltere is always somelHdy about who wants to see the "natural wall" which crops out at several places in this county, and consequently parties are formed al most every year to visit; the localities where it may be seen. There was a par ty made up for tliis purpose, last Friday, and the strange part about it is that it consisted almost entirely of old stagers and those who are "off the carpet." But it comprised gentlemen and ladies, all very handsome, sprjghtly, gay and festive. We would hardly do justice to them with out giving the names of soaie of the gen tlemen, at least, and we certainly cannot do better than to begin with Maj-S. W. Cole, who inspired the incident, and then follow with Mr. Wm. Murdock, who knows all about rocks and walls, Rev. J Rumple, who was fleshly posted on Trap, Basalt Plutonics, Feldspar, Hornblende,. Pyro xene, &c, &c. ; and close the list with Mr. T. F. Kluttz, armed with a pick and nerved by a keen relish for looking into things. The Ladies constituted the poet ic grace of the party, without jvhom it would have been a. prosy affairl By-f-he-way, they filled out a most beautiful pic ture without knowing it j seated on a gjoping bank in the dark gray irootbv be if only very slightly tteged with Jealousy, could never Tiav "ended so tamely j and thus it becomes probable that the magnih- cent granite range to the south and east of us, swelling up Into Dunn's monntaiu three miles off, crossing the Yadkin river into Davidson and shooting out spurs for many miles into Randolph and Montgom ery counties, were all the same day's work. Nor il that all. Tears usually follow fits of passion, as rain drops the angry light ning and rattling thunder, and old mother had hardly been feminine had she cooled down without them. No doubt she shed many, strewing them on the hills and vales of Burke, where they cry stalized in to diamonds ; and there too she began her wailing, and "sputtered" from hundreds of open pores a golden shower which clad the country in a robe of jewels. Hence the gold mines in Burke, Catawba, Iredell, Mecklenburg Qabarrtfs, Rowan, Davie, Davidson, Montgomery, Stanly, Rich mond, Moore and Union, in many of which counties the glittering treasure is still found broad-cast in the soil and congeal ed in veins. -Xor is this all but . there shouldjbe ah end to wandering. The point visited last Friday is four and a half miles north of this place, on the lands of the late Farley Ellis. The rocks comprising what is called tho "natural wali,"'are Plutonic, heavy, and of a dark grey celor, with a dull metaticluateriu the fresh fracture. It lies in tJia usu al order of the Trap rock, broken into crystals of various sizes, with but little uniformity of shape, except parallel sides. It seems to run nearly east and west, and can doubtless be traced for a considerable distance in both directions. There is another noted point at which we have a wall, about nine miles north west of this place, on lands formerly own- hed by a man named Robley. It was here, many years ago, that a considerable exca vation was made. The wall stood so erect and the crystals of which it was com posed were of such remarkable uniformi ty in size and- shape (rhomboidal), and were embeded in a substance so cloatdy resembling cement that many intelligent people lelieved it was the work of human hands, and some are still of that opinion. But the rock is of the same character, and may be only a-continuation of the vein seen on the Ellis farm. The excavation alluded, to is said to have been carried down 20 feet ; but it was fruitless of sci entific results, for it still left the subject shrouded in doubt as to the character of the wall. 'Hence the frequent visits made to these places. Cariosity hunters, for which Americans ure somewhat noted, will see these things. Few, however, have ever yet obtained more than a very su perficial view of our "natural wall," and never can except by the expenditure of considerable time and money. It is cqv over with soil on which are trees of several centuries growth, and can only be mmd In tho W ravines cut by rushing torrents. rnrrs; .
