Here is one from Harris of the Concord
Sun. It's hard to beat :
A Lady Collapses. A sad, story is
related of a lady at a party iu London,
whose dress and form were faultless. Jnst
lefore dinner an admirer offered her a
ttowtrfrom li is button-hole, which she fast
ened to her dress with a pin. .As they went
down to dinner, the gentleman thought
Im heard a noise as though wind was es
caping from a bellows. The lady had soon
lost her projmrtious, and the tightly fitting
dress was most-baggy. It appears that
the latest fashion for thin ladies' dresses
is an air-tight lining blown . mit to the
proper size. The pin put to keep the flow
er iu had penetrated the air-tight lining
and caused a grand collapse.'
About three-weeks' ago we mentioned
the purchase of a horse on our streets
tor $5,00 Mr. C. R. Barker bought the
animal at auction. His first thought after
payiiigforhim, was to get hi in oil' h in hands.
The first man he tackled was -Mr. Win.
Watson, who swapped, giving $5,00 to boot,
without either having seen the other's ani
mal. Watson's was an old grey mare,
probably 20 "years old.' When he 'saw
Barker' horse he saddened told Barker
the mare was an old family nag and he
would really hate to part with hr. Barker
gave him back his money aud mare. Wat
son says Barker, is an honest man. Next,-
Barker tackled Capt Win. II. Crawford,
who was to give him a cow aud calf for
the horse, in this -trade, like the first,
they were not to sec each other's stock.
The forfeit was a dozen bottles of wiue
The Capt. had his cow hauled in aud
placed before the Drug store. Barker then
showed up his horse the Capt. soured
said he would pay for the wine. Next, a
negro came along and said to Mr. B., Boss,
1 understands you is got a boss to swap.
Mr. B. said he had aud immediately
wapped--gettiugun old w iud broken steed
in place of th$j,00 bone yard. Next, he
tackled Mr. Win. Suiithdeal, with whom
he swapped the w. bi s., for the best feet
of single harness in Mr. SmithdeaPs Hard-,
ware store, as before, Mr. Smithdeal saw not
the wind broken steed, nor did Mr. Barker
lay eyes on the harness. This trip Barker
made o. k. got a good 16 dollar set ol
harness. He then sold his old harness
for 7,50 : Thus coming out of this big
trading spree with a good set of harness
and $2,50 in cash. But back to,.the w. b. s
Mr Smithdeal was bantered for a trade be
fore he had seen his prize (the boy Barker
had sent for the horse had not yet arrived,)
and as he was in, the humor for trading,
aold the horse for $20, thus coming out
$4,00 ahead in the trade. It those two
horses are not dead they ought to die
right off. , ,
