Y. . -o- Jte-Captured. Jim Torrence, colored, who escaped from the Peniteutiary in" the Spring, was re-captured iu Davidson County, -Wednesday, by Thomas Kerns, Benj. Ketchey and John Long, citizens of Rowan, and committed to jail iu this place. Jim has not been idle : he broke iuto John Kern's house about two months ago .arid robbed it of various property. He broke into Benj. Ketchey1 house on ly a few days back and 'robbed it of bed clothes, wearing apparel, &c. This is the fourth burglary Jim has ..committed. His time ought to be growing short. He made a full coufession of his l ecent-offen-ce thinkinir no doubt, that it would facilitate his return to the pen. j Probably through fear of alarming its readers, or some other .cause, the Saiis bury paer does not tell to what extent thtt'dmtheria prevails in that town. Our information, received from citizens of 'Sal isbury, indicates really an alarming state of affairs there. Col. John Holt has brouirht his children to Concord and other families have sent theirs to different places. The disease is far from having run its course in Salisbury -and is likely to con tinue for some time. Com-urd Sun. The .Sum is in error. We made state ments two weeks ago, which statements were written or dictated by the physi cians of the town, of titl the cases of Dip- theria known to exist in the place for months back. Last week we gave a state ment of new eases, supplied by" the phy sicians agairi, and the Sun will find i weekly report in this paper. The Conference assembled at Moores villoon the 21st, inst., Rev D. it. Brulo, Presiding Elder,':' to thoi chair. ; Qaifb a numberof ministers aud delegates were present at the opening services. The business of the conference consist ed principally of reports from the preach ers, and from their reports it appeared that there was a good religious influence in the district; in some places gracious re revivals. Many new church edifices have been built and are iu piocess of building. In nearly all parts of the district there are Sunday Schools and in many places great iuterest is taken in thehi and they are doing much good. The financial re ports showed that the contributions for the support of the ministry Were very small; iu many-cases not a third of the preachers salary for the year having been paid. Various resolutions on Sunday School, books, periodicals, papers, finances, edu cation, &c, were adopted. The religious services during the Con fereuce and on Sunday following were of a deeply interesting character. Rev. K. A. Yates, of Wilmington, and Dr. J. 1. Bobbitt, of Raleigh, and others preached sermons full of power and religion. On Sunday services, were held iu the Metho dist and Presbyterian churches and in the Academy. Sunday eyening at 3 o'clock, there was a Sunday School mass meeting in the Presbyterian church. The singing was good, JTnd the addresses by Rev. T. A. Boon, Rev. J. J. Rein and Rev. E. A. Yates, were rich in thought, wit and ear nestness. Moorcsvillc is a flourishing Tittle town and bids fair to be a place of note at no distant day. It is situated in a good country, is made up of a good class of people -and a healthy moral tone prevades the community. It has good churches, several stores and a good school under the control of Messrs. Erontis & Leazar. This report was accidentally overlook ed in making up our last paper. Ex.
