Mr. Riandreth, of the North State Min ing Company of North Carolina, says a contract has been let to erect a furnace for the reduction of iron ores by a new1 process. As the company have large quantities of magnetic iron it is claimed that fine steer and tool steel can be made in ingots and j laid down in this city at a cost not to exceed $40 per ton. The property is situated some thirty- two miles from railroad transportion, and it is pro posed to build a line to cover the dis tance, when the cost of the transportation : will be materially lessened.
