attention to one of his female pupils, a

Nannie Holbrooks, daughter of Mr. II. S.
Holbrooks,1 and it was an open secret
that they were engaged to be ruailied.
The marriage was to have taken place a
year ago but was postponed by White,
and lately a knowledge of the fact ;that
the girl had ; been betrayed was forced
upon her family. To cover the shame
