Columbus, Ga., has a practical cotton
manufactarer who has also studied the
tariff question as affecting his business.
Mr- W. H. Young, president of the Eagle
and Pheuix Manufacturing Company, of
Columbus, says the proposed reduction
in the tariff would have no effect what
ever ou the cotton industries of the
South. He says a reduction of 20 per
cent., on heavy goods would hot enable
either England or the Eastern States to
compete with the South, and illustrates
