The negroes celebrated the 30th of May as usual, with bands of music and speech es, aud as usual the speeches was auvthinz but appropriate to the oc casion. Que speaker, a negro from Asheville, is reported to have have made a vry unwise aud iuflamatory speech, denouncing the whites m some measure, and telliuc his dusk v hearers "that in less thau ten years the whites would bow the knee to the colored man." This is presumed to mean iu intellectual snperi- ority. The outgrowth of the education of the negro is being made manifest by such remarks as quoted, ed not in active industrial employments, as was th hope of the philanthropists who urged the measure of their free educatiou. T. K. B RUN' ER, 5t AN AOEB . Hoover Hill Mine. Thomasville, X. C. June 3, '34. Mr. Editor: On Thursday last year correspondent visited the Hoover Hill mines and mill Randolph county. We were met by the gentlemanly agents in charge, Thes H. Salthons and Wm. B. Hart, who Con ducted us through their 20 stamp mill, which is in constant operation day and night clashing about 40 tons of geld ore, each 24 hours. There we wero handed ovr to Capt. Jos. Parkens and under his charge we were taken through the ntire mine underground, and roust say we were astonished at the large amount of work accomplished. Much credit is due Mr. Frechville, the Supt. and Capt. Harkiu the mining Capt. for the manner in which they have followed the rich shutes of ore and for the amount of ore now iu sight. Contrary to expectation, the Magis trates and Commissioners iu their aoeet- iag on last Mouday, refused to make any appropriation to have Rowan represented in the State Exposition ; thereby depriv ing our citizens of the benefits which would naturally accrue to them by a pro per display of her couuty's resources. As the matter now stands little cau be said. No good can come of calling them thoughtless or incompetent officers, or of rehearsing the grievances of those who fort that they had a right to ex poet some favorable action from those entrusted with the management of the county's affairs. Their refasal only makes it harder work for those who are laboring for the substantial and permanent im provement of th county and while it tends to discourage all forms of public spirit, and to fasteu the shackles of old Fogy ism en our whole peeple, yet remem ber it is bnt the reflex of the opinion of they would I only a few. It is pleasant to take and is not distress ing to the patient, but is peculiarly sicken ing and stupefying to the Tape Worm, which loosens its hold of its victim and passes away in a natural and easy manner, entirely whole, with Head, and while still alive. One physician has used this specific in over 400 cases, without a single failure to voiiworm entire. Success guaranteed. No pay required until removed with head. Send stamp for circular and terms.
