It was the work of 1 would-be train wreckers, and they came very near wing successful in their designs The wreckers evidently lard their plans for the train trom Charlotte Vo Atlanta I hey placed the cross-tie between two sills on one side of the bridge,! with the end inclining to the north. A south bound train would instantlv been hurled from the bridge by this obstruction, but as good fortune would have it, a north hound train yas the first to come along.
