Lord Kineard, a Scotch land owner and farmer, had the good sense to learn v direct exiwriwent the relative value of .tab!e manure kept some months under shelter and protected from all rain or snow, and a similar manure exposed to the weather in a way once very common i.i Great Britain, and still not "ery uncommon in the United States. Four acre, of good soil were measured, two of them were m inured with ordinary barn-yard manure, and two with an iquu! quantity of ni inure from a covered shod. The whole was planted with pot a toe. The produce or each acre was as follows: f a . . m . - '.at rotatoes treated with Darn-yard ma nure: One ere pnidi iced 272 bushels. Potatoes manured from the covered sheds: One acre produced 442 bush els; one acre produced 471 bushels. The next jear the laud w. s sown with wheat, when the wheat crop was as follows: Wheat on land treated with barn yard manure: One acre produced forty-one bushels and eighteen pounds,' (of sixty-one pounds per bushel.) One acre produced forty-two bushels and thirty pounds, (of sixty-one pounds per bushel.) Wheat on land manured from cov ered shed.-: One acre produced fifty-fire bushels and five pounds (of sixty one- pounds per bushel.; One acre produced fifty-eight feiish- els and forty-seven pounds, (of sixty one pounds per bushel. y Ihe straw also yielded one-third more upon the laud fertilized with the manure from the covered stalls, than hat to which the ordinary manure was applied. Mr. Gladstone says that the new- United States tariff-act is in his e'es a leplorable error, attended with se vere and cruel consequence iu innocent persons. It is predicted iu Minneapolis that the price of wheat will advance to $1.40 a bushel in Chicago before the crop year is ended.
