The body of Col. Sharp, a prominent
citizen of Statesville, was discovered
lying on railroad track near Stateville
Monday night by an east bound freight
train. The body was torn almost to
pieces, having been run over by the

Statesville Engineer Jamea of the pas
senger train thought he saw nn object
like a man's body lying on the track,
but concluded he was mistaken until
the train reached Salisbury when
the pilot was found to, be sprinkled
with blood, and afterward news was
brought bv the freight train of the
finding of the body, It is noj knouw
whether Col. Sharp was killed by tb
engine or by some one and the bod
