Mr. Bourke Cock ran's wonderful assertion that "a debasement of the coinage would necessarily work a re duction in the rate of wages paid the laborer" is made the great basis upon which the whole goldite fra ternity fabricate all their arguments against the unlimited coinage of sil ver at the ratio of 10 to 1. f .i -1 i: . . .J - nor. lie saw in si me pviicj unuvr Mr. Harrison's administration was to redeem gretBbacki is gold and Har rison established the precedent by a ruling of his Secretary and the C ley el and administration followed the precedent under the threat ef Wall Street and iu the face of this the Republicans denounce his action. In 18U2 Pennsylvania iron makers struck and were shot down, mills stopped, and the people were com- s a aft fl plaining just as toey are now. ne feared another issue of bonds under Cleveland Qo matter how the election goes. The government is in fear of syndicates and banks, and yet the gold men are saying ustand where 4 M . a you are. 1 hey propose to cut away more of the foundation; Bryan pro poses to widen it. Trusts propose to put all together and issue bonds and have ene buyer and one seller and control prices. Nails have gone up uearly 200 per cent. The nail trust has bought the patent nail machines The Democrats have declared for the graduated income tax and n acted the law in spite of Cleveland but the Supreme Court downed it. We shall bave it yet. The people ef the Democratic party were in favor of silver and graduated tax and opposed to trusts and monopoly, and their voice was what put it in the Chicago platform and caused the nomination of Mr. Bryan. On these lines we are with the Populists and Mr. Guthrie agree shout these things. Yesterday, when in Rah igh, the pectacla of the executive com mitt of two parties, the Populist and Re publican that stand diametrically op posed to each other on principles proposing a purchase a ad sale of of fices State and Congressional, by it the Populists in certain districts are made to support gold standard Congressmen on the Republican ticket. Can it be possible that the Populists can be driven like dumb cattle to do this thing on the 3rd of November. If you could see how these good women strive hard under this pres sue to keep the wolf from the door, then you will realize with what anx iety they are to have free silver. My friends we have lost a few Democrats, If they leave the Dem ocratic 4trtv to day, they leave it to their own detriment, and they seem to think that they Can afford t separate themselves from what they have been closely allied for veaiis. because it seems to their interest. In 1804 I heard Senator Pritchard say he would vote? for free silver every day in the wyek; now he is practically telling he people he will vote for it till th 4th of March and no longer. There are ne Populist gold bug; not one. The old Republican party was once a party of patriots, but it has become a party of money grab bers, and the whole party is run by professional money gamblers and political tricksters. Let us put a patriot iu the White HouS", and we have found him in Bryan. Let the people stand under his arms and hold them up. The old war debt was first payable in legal tender money, and while the Republicans had control of 'Jougress it was made payable in coin, then in gold. They got us down to a single standard system by absolute fraud, and now they have the effrontery to call it "honest monev," which thev have doubled iu purchasing power over 200 per cent The Democrats are now for the free coinage of silver, but the Populists want a general revision in our whole currency system, lhey want th money in circulation. They want a system that will bring it dawu to the people. THE MKXT PRESIDENT IN SALISBURY. Thursday last was a big day in Salisbury. The announcement that Hon.
